In the book 'A Peice of Heaven' by Sharon Dennis Wyeth, a girl named Mahalia Moon, who goes by Haley, used to have a pretty normal life. She lived with her mom and 15 year old brother Otis. Besides her dad abandoning the family, nothing much tragic happened. Until one day, Haley's mom had to be sent to the hospital. There was no known reason, and Haley and Otis had no idea why. Haley went to visit her mom at the hospital, and her mom told her not to come back! So instead, Haley wrote letters to her mom. To help with the hospital bills, and house bills since Haley and Otis were living by themselves, Haley got a job as a 'yard worker' and works for a very nice man named Jackson. But later on, thanks to Otis' best friend Reggie, Otis and Reggie are sent to juvenile detention for selling 'hot clothes', clothes that were stolen. Otis was trying to sell the clothes to raise money for his mom. Meanwhile, Jackson gives Haley some free things laying around in his house that he doesn't use, including Christmas lights and candle holders, which Haley ended up giving to her mom. Fortunately, during these rough times, Haley's friend Nirvana and her boyfriend Dill are a great support system for Haley. Nirvana's grandmother, Mrs. Brown, also helps Haley by visiting her when Haley is home by herself. Until at one point, Haley had to go through many more changes in her life. She ended up making new friends, new surroundings, realized life isn't as bad as she thought it was, and finally found a place she could call 'home.' Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't confusing at all, so I understood what was going on throughout every page in the book. It was also attention grabbing, so I wanted to keep reading the book without stopping. It was also very easy to read, infact maybe TOO easy, because it wasn't very challenging whatsoever. There were very few hard words, or words I needed to look up to actually understand what the word meant. This book is a 'good reader' for anyone of all ages. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
