Overview

Fall in love with the first book in the Blood Rose trilogy-a romance of the Old West by a phenomenal new talent

On a stagecoach traveling through New Mexico Territory, Jessica Thornton is a long way from the cool mists and lush gardens of her native England. An authoress and milliner, she carries the weight of a scandalous secret-a horrible shame that has brought her to the West on a desperate search for the only family she can trust: her brother.

No one prepared Jessica for the heat and the hardships. And no one prepared her for a man like Brady Wilkins. For, despite the rancher's rough-hewn appearance and her own misgivings, Jessica must put her life in his hands after their stagecoach crashes. And she begins to see the man behind the callused hands and caustic wit. A man strong enough to carve out a home in the wilderness, brave enough to fight for his own, and passionate enough to restore her faith in herself-and in her heart.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In her auspicious debut, Warner kicks off the Blood Rose trilogy by introducing the Wilkins brothers—Brady, Andrew “Jack” Jackson, and Patrick “Hank” Henry—of RosaRoja in 1869's New Mexico Territory. On a stagecoach ride destined for disaster, eldest brother Brady encounters prim, proper, and very pregnant Jessica Abigail Rebecca Thornton, a flame-haired authoress, milliner, and British heiress. On the run from her violent, controlling brother-in-law, John Crawford, and searching for her brother, George Adrian, Jessica is in danger of losing her Northumberland estate and determined to find a way to hold onto it. Brady offers refuge, and Warner develops their romance with well-paced finesse and great character work. Along with greedy, domineering John, vengeful ex-con Sancho Ramirez (whose father was RosaRoja's former owner) and his murderous half-brother also threaten the couple's happiness. While following her protagonists overcoming enemies within and without, Warner makes great use of the vivid Old West setting. (Jan.)

    GREAT BOOK!!!

FABULOUS! Fascinating characters, intriguing plot, captivating setting. Could not wait to read the 2nd book in the trilogy- Open Country. I thoroughly enjoyed this author's voice, great humor, and sensitivity. A book I could not put down until I finished it, and then was sad it was over. Pieces of Sky made me laugh aloud and weep salty tears. I absolutely loved it, and would recommend it to ALL!

    Boring

This book had so much potential. She should of stuck to one main plot. It just drug on for me, it kept building up and then let you down. The worst was the ending. Having you up and down the whole long book, and then the ending which could of redeemed a lot just wrapped up in a couple simple no feeling pages. It just didnt do it for me.

    Wonderful

This book was such a wonderful find. The plot sounded interesting, and didn't fail to provide great detail and extraordinary character development. I absolutely loved the differences between the two main characters, and how it was discussed and acknowledged and made each other treasure the other even more. The background and historical facts of the Old West have been fascinating. Its been hard to put down and I was thrilled to find out that there will be two more novels. I will be looking forward to reading the adventures of the other two brothers.

    I loved it!

I found this to be a very exciting historical novel. It has everything from a great hero and a lovely heroin to adventure, romance and suspense. Brady and Jessica are such an exciting couple. I could not put it down and am so excited to read the rest of The Blood Rose Trilogy! Kaki Warner is a great new author for your reading lists.

This is an exciting western romance

In 1869, humiliated pregnant heiress Jessica Thornton decides to leave England after being raped by her brother-in-law John Crawford. She heads to the home of her brother George Adrian in the New Mexico Territory fearing it may cost her property she owns in Northumberland to abusive John, but staying might mean her life. However, the coach she rides crashes.

Brady Wilkins joins the coach, which soon afterward crashes. He gets help and soon takes the English runaway and the other stranded people to his nearby ranch RosaRoja. As she heals and stays behind after the others leave, they fall in love in spite of her delicate condition. However, she fears John will come and harm her host; and he has his own trepidations involving his brothers and the ranch. Their pasts will give them no choice but to bond in love

This is an exciting western romance that will be on the short list of fans as one of the sub-genre's best books of the year due to the dark grittiness of the plot. The lead couple is a wonderful pairing of "Her Ladyship" and a rancher with both having issues to face. Those issues arrive to haunt each of them and intrude on their growing love for one another. The first of the tales of three brothers, Pieces of Sky is a winner.

    Fizzled.........................................................

    Fizzled....................................................................................
Starts out good. Brady and Jessica overcome one crisis after another . Rape , murder, death, stagecoach crashes, lunatics. Nothing can stop their love. Then the house burns down. I guess you have to draw the line somewhere. Brady tell Jessica that she should go home to England. It is going to take to long to rebuild and he can't put her through this . Jessica pledges undying love and begs to stay but our hero is to noble to allow it. For cripes sake.........the house, barn and a few outbuildings burned down. Not the state of Texas. And he still has his 88,000 acre ranch and all his cattle. Plus his brothers to help him. I'm not a big fan of the I love you, I love you, I love you but go away its for your own good style of writing unless there is a really valid reason. This was not a good reason. I am a big fan of Kaki Warner and this book disappoints.

So glad I picked it up!

This was an impulse buy. It had popped up a few times as recommended reading based on previous books I had purchased. I liked the name so I bought it. I started reading and was quickly pulled into the wonderful world that Ms. Warner created. Beautifully written with realistic characters, it is definitely worth your time!

A page turner with great characters

I really did love this book! It is a romance novel that is filled with passion. The characters are amazing, with so much depth that you can't help but care deeply about them, and a murderous villian that you will love to hate. It was a page turner with a great plot that held me captive. I laughed out loud and cried real tears.
Bravo to the author, Kaki Warner. This novel is amazing and I'm looking forward to more great books from her.

A beautiful book about the power of love and redemption. It has all of the characteristics a romance book should have. Loved it from the beginning all the way to the end. Never wanted to put it down. Definitely a book to re-read.
