Ken is the ultimate source of pier and coastal fishing in California. This book is packed with history, species, techniques, and descriptions of every single pier in California. A must have if you enjoy pierfishing.
With his first edition, Ken Jones started an almost cult following of regulars that fish California pier and shore locations. We call these folks 'Pier Rats.' Now revised in 2nd edition for 2004, the book more than doubles in size to over 500 pages. More anecdotes, more history, morerevised pier references, and more fish. Jones's loses none of his old material, and re-inforces a strong tone of conservationalism and ethical fishing to sustain the sport. This is valuable material whether one wants to simply catch more fish at piers, or one wants to start a deeper dive on the history of piers, the culture, or the science of piers. The first version had materials primarily targeting just anglers bent on trying to catch fish. This 2nd edition improves on the tactics, but adds in valuable information on demographics, nutrition, history, and environment. Academics and governmental workers involved in public policy or marine research should definitely get this reference which can provide access information, location, common species caught, and seasonal conditions.
