Overview

Gritch the Witch is grouchy, grumpy, and very hungry. The only thing that could make her happy is something extra special for lunch, and that is: Piggie Pie! Gritch zooms off on her broomstick to find eight plump piggies—where else?—on Old MacDonald's Farm. Cleverly disguised pigs impersonate ducks, chickens, a cow, and Old MacDonald himself, as this uproarious, quick-paced story builds to an ironically surprising conclusion. Wacky, hip, and illustrated with bold, bright paintings, "Piggie Pie" adds a new twist to an old fairy-tale scene.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Pigs in disguise fool a witch who wants to eat them for lunch. Ages 4-8. (Aug.)
From The Critics
The greatest read aloud that I've discovered this year is this story of Gritch, a greedy and not-so-bright witch, who's got an itch for Piggy Pie. Her problem is that she needs eight plump piggies. Walking her long green-nailed fingernails down the Yellow Pages, Gritch discovers Old MacDonald's Farm (Call Ei-ei-o). There the fun begins as pigs don disguises and, despite the taunts of the frustrated witch, refuse to show their true pink colors. Palatini threads themes of the familiar song that make for fun chorusing and Gritch's fantastic name calling is sure to prod giggles. Fine joins in the fun with playful illustrative details like the sky writing "Surrender Piggies."

Best Read Grandma ever read to her precious people

Piggy Pie is a treat... the language is exciting to read. Grandma becomes the Witch and the words and story just roll out as if it were truly one of my stories. The art work goes perfectly with the clever tale. It has a sequel as my kids say. Zoom Broom is not quite as good but close. I recommend it highly

Awesome Read for ALL Aged Children (and even adults)!

This is a fabulous book when reading to any age aloud, try to get a hold of the tape/cd to really get an even better read. It's also a great model on how to read to kids in an animated fashion. Wicked fun!

    Tap your lucky wart...

A fun book that pulls from other familiar texts and songs. (Old McDonald, Smart Pigs, the big bad wolf, a nasty witch...) What more fun you can ask for!

Good enough for parents and kids alike

I bought this book at a garage sale and my daughter and I fell in love with it. When we took it on vacation with us to visit family my Aunt and two cousins instantly fell in love with it. Now I have to buy them one to enjoy as well

    Piggie Pie

As a parent of a 3 year old, our neighbors down the road came to spend the night and had checked out Piggie Pie from the library. I read this story to the girls little slumber party and honestly, I don't know who enjoyed it more, me or the girls. At times I would laugh so hard that I could not finish, which you can imagine, got the girls giggling. Thank you for such wonderful reading. I am planning to purchase 2 books, one for my daughter (ok, me too and one for our neighbors)
