Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jennie DeGenaro
It would be difficult for a young child not to love this book. The illustrations of a small child's hand look exactly like one, pink and plump with special lines. The text and illustrations go perfectly together. With only three or four well-chosen words per page, they manage to keep the story alive and moving. The authors explain various situations the little piggies (fingers) find themselves in. For example, the piggies may be clean or they may be dirty. They may be hot or they may be cold. Different kisses for the little piggies are explained. The accompanying CD has seven original songs making this a perfect bed-time story for a young child. Audrey Wood and Don Wood have received many awards for their children's books and this title looks like another winner. Awards include ALA Notable Children's Book Award, Golden Kite Award, and Caldecott Honor Book.
From the Publisher

"Rarely have there been pigs as delightfully surreal as these. The Woods take a simple concept--that with a little imagination five fingers can become piggies--and they have a wild, imaginative ball with it."--Booklist (starred review)

"Brilliant colors and large pictures convey the humor . . . while more subtle details of costume and trappings invite viewers to pore over the [piggies'] antics again and again. 'This little piggie . . .' will never be the same."--School Library Journal (starred review)

"These exuberant, plump little pigs are real charmers."--Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

    My cute little piggies!

I bought this book for my son before he was born... okay acutally I bought it as a gift for my God-son and loved the pictures in it that I couldn't give it away! The pictures are what make the book, it's a cute story mind you but the pictures are just so lively and beautiful! My son now 18 mnths old loves to read the book while we show our piggies to eachother and skip them down our toes for bed each night! I'm finally going to give my God Son a copy as well as a few friends children.

Another Nanny, Another 5 star review

This book is absolutely fantastic. I got it from the local library here in Canada to read to my 2 lovely charges. The book came with a tape of songs to go with the scenes in the book. The songs are beautiful. We sang them together for days. In this sometimes too harsh world for our little dears, this book offers rays of sunshine to brighten the day for everyone.

    I Also Recommend:

    Sure to get a giggle.

Piggies is a great bedtime read-aloud. Don and Audrey Wood consistently provide high quality children's books with engaging and humorous illustrations. Piggies is a perfect addition to any pre-school child's home library and makes an excellent baby shower gift, as well.
