Piggins has been out on the market for a very long time, and is a worthy candidate for either a Caldecott or Newbury award. It has a cleverly disguised character corralation to the characters in Peter Rabbit. Piere Lapin, who else could it be? As you read the book to children 6 or a little older, it is fun to guide them through a book talk discussion on "what do you think?" questions. Superb in its mystery , and youthful, but sophisticated character descriptions. This book should be in every child's home library, to be read and reread because there is always something you missed in the reading before it. Jane Yolen, the author and Jane Dyer, the illustrator have created both a heartwarming story and illustrations that a total compliment to the written word...an all star winner!
