Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Farm animals and their babies are the topic of this book from the "Rookie Preschool: Rookie Learn About Nature" series. The color photographs of the animals and their cute babies (piglet, calf, chick, and more) provide support for children as they begin to build their vocabulary. The names of the animals and the babies are featured in large, color print on the page. Also, there are a few pictures with labels naming some of the animal body parts like hoof, paw, and tail. Most of the text follows a patterned sentence. After the end of the story, there is a pictorial summary of the animals that are introduced in the book. On the following page, adults may find some helpful tips and ideas to support children with animal recognition and identification. Other books in the "Rookie Preschool" series cover different topics that are geared for the preschoolers. Early childhood professionals have provided consultation to the series.
