Children's Literature
The Pigman has died. John and Lorraine cannot seem to shake him. They decide to go past his house. There, they find an elderly man (running from the tax collectors) living in the house. John and Lorraine decide to make amends with this man, Gus, in an effort to re-right their wrong. Along the way, Lorraine and John find a passion for each other and they develop a friendship with the aged man, Gus. How will they mess this one up? The story is uniquely told—the chapters alternate between Lorraine's and John's viewpoint. This is a good story. It is slow in parts but the ending is worth it. If you have not read The Pigman, that is okay as Zindel catches the reader up in "The Promise" (the introduction to The Pigman's Legacy). This would be a first-rate book read aloud in a Language Arts class or any class that is studying themes that deal with the relationships between the young and old generation. This is a fulfilling sequel to The Pigman with an accurate message: History always repeats itself. 2005 (orig. 1980), Harper Trophy/HarperCollins, Ages 12 up.

Gr 8 Up—In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the publication of Paul Zindel's award-winning novel, The Pigman (HarperCollins, 1968), Zindel's son David has produced audiobook versions of The Pigman and The Pigman's Legacy (Harper, 1980). In the first title, as a result of a phone prank, high school sophomores John and Lorraine become friends with Mr. Pignati (the Pigman), an elderly widower. The conflicted teens feel alienated from everything, but the Pigman's enthusiasm for life soon spills over onto them. John and Lorraine go roller skating with their new friend, and he suffers a heart attack and is hospitalized. The teens have a party at the Pigman's house, and his pig collection and some of his late wife's clothes are destroyed. When Mr. Pignati comes home unexpectedly, he's distraught and feels betrayed by the teens. They try to make it up to him by taking him to the zoo, where he learns that his beloved gorilla, Bobo, has died. This trauma causes the Pigman to have a fatal heart attack. In The Pigman's Legacy, John and Lorraine discover that a homeless man is living in Mr. Pignati's abandoned house. Thinking that this is a chance for them to make up for what happened to the Pigman, they try to befriend the surly old man. After to Atlantic City to cheer up the man, they discover that the true legacy of the Pigman is love. Both stories are told in chapters that alternate between John and Lorraine's point of view, narrated by Charlie McWade and Eden Riegel who do an outstanding job of bringing the characters to life. An added bonus is a fascinating interview with Paul Zindel discussing his craft. These remarkable audiobooks, which still offer important messages to today'steens, are a must-have for high school and public libraries.—Kathy Miller, Baldwin High School Baldwin City, KS

The Pigman has been dead for four months and things around the city are same back to what they used to be. Until John and Lorraine go to visit Pigman¿s old house because they think he¿s haunting it. The only thing they find is an old man who is on the lamb from the tax collector. John and Lorraine think its Mr. Pignati 'Pigman' is trying to tell them something from beyond the grave. Finally something happens at the end in which John and Lorraine where not excepting at all to happen¿¿.. Here is what I thought of the book The Pigman¿s Legacy. I thought it got confusing at times when it switched from John narrating to Lorraine narrating. It was good because it follows the previously Novel the Pigman. Usually I read the second book of a novel and it skips ahead too much and it¿s hard to understand. Not this novel it flows right from the first novel to the second quite adequately. I didn¿t like the bad words being censored out I think if your going to read this book you have to be mature enough not to repeat those despicable words. This book is part of a string of books only three. It¿s an obligation to read the first book first to comprehend what¿s going on in the second one. When you read the first one the second one answers all the questions about the main Characters love life and family life and how they have changed. My over all thought of this book is that I liked it a lot and anyone who likes teenage drama and witty fun read this book it will surely amuse you.

I would give this book a 5 because i really liked the book a lot it was very interesting and catching. john and Lorraine are going to go back to the Pigmans house 4 months later and they see some old guy named gus who lives their. He thinks they are from the IRS but they say their not and they were just their to see what the house looked like after a while since they were last thier. They bring Gus some brownies to him the next day and then he wants to go to the town house to pick somethings up of his. when they get thier they go through a lot of rooms and they find a chest and they take it home with them. When they get to the car they find a dog and it was Guses and they take it home with them. Gus has a stomach cramp and John drive him to the hospital they released him. You can find out what happens next in the book. I really liked this book because it kept me wanting to read more. This is part of a series, and you have to read them in order. I think anyone can read the book except kids under ages 9.

This book was about two sixteen year olds named John and Lorraine that had lost a friend in the last book and one day while they were walking past his old house they see another person in the old house and think his ghost has come back to haunt them. The purpose of this story was to entertain it was reaching more towards teenagers than any other age group. I think this book was VERY good overall and I suggest that you read it. In the book the John and Lorraine make friends with person who was hiding in Mr. Pignati's old house. They end up taking him all the way to Atlantic City so he could do what he wanted before he died. They did this because they felt like it was Mr. Pignati reincarnated so they felt like they owed it to the old man.The main characters in the story were John and Lorraine. The setting of this story was in Atlantic City and New York.I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it highly.

In The Pigmans Legacy, John and Lorraine are still upset about the Pigman dying. They get off at the wrong bus stop and end up at the Pigmans old house. Lorraine looks in the window and sees a face. They go in to the house to see an old man who has taken over the abandoned house. They believe that this is a sign to make things right again with the Pigman, so they take their opportunity and become friends with the old man. Description and summary of main points The old man doesn't like John or Lorraine at first but they eventually hit a sore spot on the old man. He tells them about his old friend, the colonel, and they find out that the colonel is closer than they think. They soon become best friends with the old man and John and Lorraine's relationship grows closer. Will they actually keep their friendship with the old man this time or will it corrupt and none of it be worth the time? Evaluation The Pigmans Legacy was a great book. The main point of the story was to teach John and Lorraine how to love, and I think that that is a good life lesson for many people. The setting of this story, New York, helps set the style of this book. This is a very fun and good natured story about two teenagers living in New York and their adventures together. Conclusion Overall, I think that this was an amazing story. It teaches people how to love. The story was so unpredictable and was very surprising. There was an interesting twist to the end that anyone would love reading. I recommend this book to anyone that loves a great book.

Introduction: The Pigman has been dead for a few months. John and Lorraine are sad about that and they see an old man break into the old house. The children are infuriated. John gives the old man an answer. The old man is a retired Colonel. The man picks a fossil of a prehistoric creature from a former Colonel. Description and summary of main points: The old man eats more fudge. Evaluation: The children started the noisy car and rain fell on the kids, so they started to close the top of the convertible. John said the rain stops in a minute. Lorraine and John were going crazy. The old man snored on Lorraine's lap. The old man talked a little bit in the car. Conclusion: Lorraine and John went gambling at the casino. They won in the casino. They cried because they lost money from the slot machine. Dolly comforted the kids. John got some coins at the casino. The old man got the coins after he won gambling at the casino. Your final review: The old man groans with pain as he was being taken to the hospital. He is weak. The surgeon did surgery in him. The man tells Dolly and the kids to come to him. He feels sad because of the pain. The surgery helped him a little bit to reduce the pain inside the old man.

Wow, if you think the first one was horrible, just wait until you read this one. When I did a review of the first book, I said it was one of the worst books I have ever read. One of the worst. Not the worst. And, that's because the second book is the worst thing I have ever read. I actually can't believe how bad this book was. The first one, that at least had some purpose. This book, from the beginning is so random. SPOILER ALERT!!! Sorry, but I'm going on a rant. First of all, do you really expect me to believe that a lunch lady from the cafeteria and an old man would let you skip school so you could go on a trip to atlantis city? Yeah right. I'm sorry, but these characters John and Lorraine are stupid!!! As if you didn't learn from the first book. Why do they want to be friends with another old man? This book's plot sucked. There's even more crap piled on top of crap in this book. They get in a car, drive to atlantis city. Gamble. They win lots of money. John loses the money. Dolly forgives him. Old guy has heart attack. Dies. Marries Dolly before death. No emotion afterwards. The ending made me so angry. They didn't cry over his death. They didn't show the parents of the kid's like they did in the last book. No, they ended it with them looking at a nursery of babies. THERE SIXTEEN!!!!! They shouldn't be thinking about having babies!!!! Once again, if you like this book, that's your right. This book served no purpose, was random. To be honest, I don't even call this a book. This is the worst thing I have ever read. Why was this book even published? This was just pathetic!

I recently read the book The Pigman's Legacy by Paul Zindel. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was a pleasant surprise. It's a great book and I would recommend it to any middle school student who likes stories about people. I think teens can relate to it in a lot of ways, which makes it easier to read. The Pigman's Legacy is a wonderful book that continues the story of John and Lorraine's wild adventures. It will have you intrigued from the first page all the way until the end. When the book begins, John and Lorraine are still grieving over the Pigman's death. They have become closer to each other since the first book but still aren't sure about their feelings for each other. One day when they're walking home from school they see the Pigman's old house. Lorraine sees someone in the house, so John and Lorraine decide to go look. They meet an old man who has been living there for a while and eventually become friends. John and Lorraine start to feel happy again but they still miss the Pigman. The plot of this book was strong, for it was easy to understand and realistic. I really enjoyed that John and Lorraine return in this book, because I think the book wouldn't be nearly as good as it was without them. The old man, whose name is the Colonel, made me laugh. Gladys, the janitor who helps John and Lorraine understand the Colonel, was funny too and I feel like her character was very realistic. I loved the fact that each character changes as the book goes on. This made the book relatable and reminded me of people I know in my own life. A lot of times sequels are sometimes confusing because of a change of characters, plot, or setting but this one stayed really true to the first book. Now that we know about the world John and Lorraine live in we can really understand and thoroughly enjoy the story. When I first heard there was a sequel to The Pigman, I was a little skeptical of how the story would turn out. However this book proved me wrong! I was really surprised to see that the goals of the story were met and the story really came together. The characters are realistic and the story teaches you to not be afraid to be different and not hide you true emotions. I must say, this is probably one of the best books I've read yet!

The Pigman's Legacy by Paul Zindel is a perfect action book for school. John and Lorraine are two kids who skip school. This is the second book that Paul Zindel wrote. After Mr. Pignati died, John and Lorraine walked past his house and see a figure. They went inside and found out that a man had taken refuge. The book is was than the first. I always love the first book more than the second. This was a better book than I expected. It is amazing for a summer school book. The man was in the army and falls in love. He is sick and has to go to the hospital. He also has a dog named Gus.This book is astonishing. If I didn't have to read it for school I would still read it. It disappointed me because I thought it would be better.

Paul Zindall's story was well written and entertaining. There are two kids who become involved with a man named Mr. Pignati. They prank call his house acting like they had a charity organization. He believed them and said he would give them money for it. The two kids tell him they will come and pick the money up from his house. Before they go, they start having second thoughts about getting the money. The two of the kids decided they were going to go ahead and collect the money from him. When they get there and he answers the door they realize he is an old man and cannot take the money from him. They tell him their not really from a charity organization. When they told him that they got really scared, but he didn't care. He said that it was fine and that they could come over anytime. There are 3 main characters in the story. Their names are John, Lorraine, and Mr. Pignati. John is the pretty bad boy who acts good for adults but, dose sneaky bad things without getting caught. Lorraine is the kind, sweet, and smart girl who also is a little bad. Mr.Pignati is an old man who lives by his self because his wife died. He is a very nice, kind, and caring old man. It takes place in a small town where everyone kind of knows each other in some way or another. John and Lorraine become very friendly with Mr.Pignati. They create a very strong bond with him. In his house he kept all his wife's belongings. The ones that mattered most to him was her collection of glass pigs. The book was one of the best ones I have read. Most books I read are usually read are boring to me. This one kept my attention and had me focused on it the whole way through it.

If you haven't read the Pigman I would recommend it. This is the second book to it. The Pigman's Legacy takes place in New York, on a quiet little street on Howards Avenue. If you didn't know this was the street the Pigman used to live on. John and Lorraine used to be the Pigman's best friend unti;he died for months ago. They still ust couldn't get over the Pigman's death so they go to his old house to see a mean little beady eyes staring at them from the window. Curiousity getting the best of them they walk inside. To see an old man named Gus in the Pigman's house who claims this house is his! I thought that thiis book was the best book ever aside from the Pigman. It is funny, entertaining, adventuress, and it has some school life, also a little romance between characters. This is a must read bok to everyone who loves to read. What I saw this book as is, a must read book that you will want to keep turning the pages to and never put it down. It was a great book to me that got my attention when i read the first book. I thought that the ending was amazing and that there should be a third to it but i am not very sure if there is one. It was a great read and its a a must have book for you. So I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did!

Over the summer I read the pigmans legacy it was ok but really didn't make since to me. John and Lorraine where going to check on the pigmans house and the saw eyes in they went in. It turned out to be an old hobo that was hiding from the tax collectors and sort of adopted the pig mans house. By this time the pigmans was dead for 6 months. I think that Paul Zindel did a good job on the characters and setting of the book. The setting didn't really change but the characters did at the end of the story people where happy not sad I liked it. The conclusion of my over all review that the pig man's legacy is a pretty good book an I would try to recommend it to a few people if they like sort of comedy books and I would probably not strive to read it again. I liked the pig man better than The Pig mans Legacy. My final review is that I got a little con fused in the beginning and then it got a little better . I would give the book 3 stars.

The Pigman's legacy tells about when two people get a second chance at righting their wrong. Also how history reoccurs. It starts out on Staten Island four months after the pigman died. John and Lorraine are walking past his house when they see a man in the window.recommend this book to anyone. It was really enjoyable to read and I just couldn't put this book down. This book really shows on how people do get second chances and that history repeats itself. This book was my favorite.

This book is once again about John and Lorraine who go onto a second adventure. This book was a disappointment because the plot was a complete repeat to me. This story takes place a few months after the Pigman's death. This book is the same thing only a different old man. This man is so similar to Mr.Pignati I felt like I was reading "The Pigman" all over again. One example is that he also has a mental game just like Mr.Piganti. That is not a good thing because when people read a sequel they weren't expecting to read a continuation of the plot, not a repitition. This book truly was a letdown because I personally was looking forward to this book, but I was looking for a new adventure filled with different type of suspense, but I found everything so similar. When I was reading this book nothing surprised me because my predictions of what was going to happen were so accurate. Even when new things appeared I could tell what would happen because their actions of what John and Lorraine would do were so predictable. I do however think that this is the angle Mr. Zindel was going for. But, however, I do not agree or like this angle, which is why I am displeased by this book. Although I did, however, enjoy the setting and style of the story where it took place in the 60s and was in New York. My conclusion of this book is it should just be an activity to pass away time on a rainy day.

Its a good thing that Paul Zindel wrote this book because after i read the pigman i felt like the story wasn't finished i wanted to know what happened with john and lorraine. This finished the story a great way even though i wish he would have kept going i just love the characters so much !!!

I have to say that it was the best book I ever read. It was very exciting, but I would never have expected another death again. Zindel really expresses the things in life that we have to deal with. I loved how he wrote with such simplicity but still made it a complicated conflict. I truely recommend this book. It was the best book I have ever read.

I felt that the Pigmans Legacy is a great book for all ages and defenitly recomend this for anyone and everyone who likes a good book. My favorite part is the way it is written. The way that it switches back and fourth from John and Lorraine.

A great book indeed! I loved the first book The Pigman, but I wasn't expecting this book to be as exciting as the first. I guess my expectations were wrong. I loved it! I coulden't stop reading it; I read it all in a day!

This is my favorite book. Lorraine and John are older. And find an old man hiding from the IRS living in Mr. Pignati's house. They figure this is their chance to repay their Pigman. I am not going to tell you anymore to spoil this book. I really hope that Paul Zindel ends up making a third book about the pigman like he said in the first book. He wrote that he would make the title 'the Return Of The Pigman', but he does not come back to life. I hope you enjoys this book as much as I did.

This was a good book that was better than the first one. Because it has a better plot and the first one was boring.

Well part one was wierd. But this part did what it was supposed to do. It took the characters and made them deal with what happened then made them take the experiences and allow them to have a positive effect on themselves. I liked that the two kids fell in love eith each-other. But honestly did the guy have to blow $4,000! Then again it was good that they were still flawed.
