Overview

In the view of St. Benedict of Nursia, the lenten journey is an inner pilgrimage with Christ into the deepest parts of ourselves, to be marked not so much by external observances such as fasting and self-denial as by a deepening of our relationship with God.

Benedictine Monk Albert Holtz develops that journey theme through meditations written during a fifteen-country pilgrimage during a sabbatical year. At the heart of each reflection is the lesson it teaches about our inner spiritual journey.

By applying Benedict's monastic wisdom to the everyday concerns and aspirations of modern Christians, Pilgrim Road helps contemporary spiritual seekers keep Lent as a positive, meaningful, and fruitful experience.

    VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I bought this book for a friend. I used it last year during Lent. It's the best Lenten reflection I have read, and I've used a lot of Lenten reflections/meditations over the years. Albert Holtz is down-to-earth, full of wisdom and insights, humble, not lofty, he's right there with the rest of us on the journeys of life and spirituality, even though he's been a Benedictine Monk and a priest for many years. "Walking" this pilgrim road with Albert Holtz will open your mind in ways unexpected, but very welcome to anyone who truly wants to examine how they live and why they live for God, and to discover new things about themselves and about God along the way. I'm learning even more this year than I did last, but that's how all good reading material and should work, and it's a testament to how Holtz writes; it's timeless wisdom for the journey. I know people who have used this book during many consecutive Lenten journeys and wouldn't go to anything else. I think that's where I'm headed. Holtz also has a book for the season of Advent as well as many other books that are well worth the read - all full of timeless wisdom, humility, humor, and incredible insights!
