Overview

The best allegory ever written is rewritten in modern English, making it clearer and more forceful to the modern reader.

With more than 100,000 in print, this retelling by James H. Thomas follows Christian as he leaves his home in the City of Destruction and begins a long journey to the Celestial City. His adventure is full of encounters with interesting people, such as Faithful, Hopeful, and Ignorance. Traveling through places such as Vanity Fair and the Valley of the Shadow of Death, he reaches his heavenly home but learns rich lessons during the journey. The story has immediate application to everyday life.

Later on, Christian's wife, Christiana, decides to join her husband in the Celestial City. As she travels, Christiana comes upon a different set of people, such Greatheart, Mercy, Honesty. Her story illustrates how Christians follow different paths but with the same destination: eternity with Jesus.

This readable, modern language version of the second most read book in the world is a great rework of a classic book and is one of those books that everyone should read once in their lifetime. Written in the form of an engaging, interesting story, it is an objective overview describing what the Christian faith is all about, and highlighting it's major elements. This book is a MUST read for any person who is open minded seeking the truth in their world-view, as it goes deeper than just rumor, innuendo and popular opinion about just what the Christian faith is. It vividly paints the greatest collection of wisdom in history: a historical library of 60 plus books, writings, letters and the equivalent of today's "White Papers"; written over 1500 years, by 40 separate authors from every walk of life and social level. Being the most scrutinized, debated and analyzed historical library ever, it has proven to be the most historical, biographically and archeologically documented historical library ever produced. Validating its authenticity, one fourth of this library was prophetic at its writing, now having been documented as truth. Also documenting the authenticity of it's 1500 years of recorded history, it is inter-woven with scores of events not understood in human context of known natural laws of the universe. Many of these events were witnessed in many cases by hundreds of lucid, rational, sober people. It would fill rooms to write the individual details of these events so this library is summarized in one volume, and Pilgrim's Progress brings out the timeless wisdom of that one volume - which is the Bible.

I have been a Christian for many years, yet this book has opened my eyes to new things about God and our journey to the "Celestial City". I will read it many times, I am sure. I hope you enjoy it too!

This is an excellent explanation of what Christianity truly means. This book is accessible, understandable, and just plain good. I am very glad I read it.
