This pocket book is a quick reference to common diseases encountered during clerkship rotations in all specialties. For each condition, the book outlines the pertinent positives and negatives in the history and physical examination, so the student will know what to ask, what to look for on the patient, and what to order. The student will be prepared to present the case effectively and field the resident's or attending's most likely questions. Evidence-based literature citations are included to prepare students for evidence-based practice questions. "Pearls" sections note the most frequently asked "pimp" questions. Numerous tables, photographs, and x-rays are included.

"P.I.M.P." stands for Put In My Place (Pimping is a universal word among US med students) and it's the longstanding tradition of an attending (usually a senior resident) to ask medical students while on rounds a series of rapid fire questions. Students are expected to answer immediately and correctly. Students are completely put on the spot in front of all their peers, so there is a decent amount of fear with regard to PIMPing. This book is intended to help students out by focusing on the most common conditions they will see during the clerkship years. It contains helpful mnemonics, differential diagnosis tables, and frequently referenced information in easy-to-read chart format.

    A reviewer

I bought this book at the beginning of my current M3 year now, thinking it might be useful on mainly my general medicine ward month. But let me tell you, I have used this on my peds (outpatient and inpatient), OBGYN, surgery, medicine, and family practice clerkships so far, and have found this book to be the most useful and HELPFUL book I have so far. It gives you just the right amount of information you need to take care of patients and LEARN from them (whereas other books just spit out pointless info). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

P.I.M.P. Protector: A Medical Reference Guide for Rotations

For anyone who goes into their clinical rotations (or has a few 'baby' clinical days m1 or m2 year), this book will SAVE YOUR BUTT. The great thing about this book is that you can use it on ALL your rotations, OB, FP, IM, Surgery, EM, Psych, Peds, etc. It really is very very useful

P.I.M.P. Protector: A Medical Reference Guide for Rotations

I recently purchased this book (having started my 3rd year rotations in May), and I can tell you it has saved my butt over the past 6 weeks. I did a month of IM last month and am now on surgery, and this book has been absolutely essential to me surviving rotations. Highly recommended.
