Kosinski knows how to tell a story, and he knows music in a technical/classical sense, but I can't say Kosinski knows rock and roll. The storyline involving a mysterious rock star is what drew me to the title, and I can't say it's a bad book because Kosinski has a definite way of drawing a reader into complex emotions and relationships. I just have trouble relating to the story itself realistically and with a borderline pompous narration on such a down to earth subject as rock music. There are gems of philosophical wisdom here and there and great symbolism, however. Overall it's worth a read.
