Overview

When Bill O'Reilly interviewed then-Senator Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential elections, the two had a lively debate about the nation's future.

Since that time, America has changed rapidly—some would even say seismically. And many believe these shifts are doing more than just rocking the political and social climate; they're rocking the American core.

What are these changes? Who, in addition to President Obama, have been the biggest forces behind them? What exactly do they mean for you, the everyday American citizen? How are they affecting your money, health, safety, freedom, and standing in this nation? Which are Pinheaded moves and which are truly Patriotic? In his latest spirited book, O'Reilly prompts further debate with the President and the American people on the current state of the union.

After five consecutive, no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is megabestsellers, you can count on Bill to offer blunt and constructive political commentary. And as he did in his popular memoir, he offers some introspection too, looking back at his own actions and those of past Pinheads and Patriots who have inspired a code of conduct for such taxing times.

As always, O'Reilly is fair, balanced, and uncompromisingly tough when guarding the American way. Only Pinheads would fail to fight for what they love most about this country or to embrace some measure of change to make it better. The rest of us Patriots will read this book to discover the difference between the two.

    Pinheads

I find it disturbing that the other reviews so far put the book down, when it came out today. Obviously, they haven't read the book. And some of them admit it!!!! Pinheads?

    Early reviews...

RESPONSE: When the title of a book references "pinheads," a very juvenile name-calling reference, immediate comments and commentary are justified. When a summary that is taken from the book's jacket states that this author is "as always fair, balanced..." blah, blah, blah, which contradicts someones ongoing experience from the author, immediate comments and commentary are justified. When there is a preview of the book available (as there is on this site) immediate comments and commentary are justified without having first read the book cover to cover. When an author who is famous (or infamous) for a very specific opinion of what his "American way" is about, and the book's jacket references that he is "guarding" it, immediate comments and commentary are justified...

    A review of reviews.

Negative reviews posted before or on the day the book is released? Have any of these previous reviewers actually read the book. They speak of fair and balanced but don't practice in their own actions. I'm curious if they actually watch the author on tv and develop their own anger-or rather derive it from the words of other tv show hosts.
    Advice from hypocrites...

    Patriots will love this book

Telling it like it is, facts or ones opinion, has never been popular with those who's agenda runs contrary to what America is really about. But snearing, dismissive, rabidly marginalizing reviews or disingenuous sound bites are expected from these folks. Those tactics won't work any more on the American public. Bill O'Reilly is a breath of fresh air. Americans have always appreciated this books candor and the exposure of duplicity.

    Is this really anything new?

What I find more disturbing than the book is the lack of respect and courtesy that people on either side give the other. Since when has it become un-American to disagree? Our biggest problem isn't right, left, or center. It is the absolute belief that one side is right and the other is not only wrong but a (fill in with the derogatory word of your choice) therefore totally incapable of contributing anything, not only to the debate, but to the society at large. If we are to solve anything, from crosswalks to the economy, we need share ideas and find common ground. All the screaming and shouting is just one more form of air pollution.

Of special note to cueCP - Advance copies of books are made readily available to reviewers and major buyers. These copies are cheaply made, often still have typos, and clearly marked as not for sale. That doesn't mean they don't find their way around and get read.

    Really?

It's hard for me to take you guys seriously when you review this latest O'reilly book and say it's fair and unbiased as usual from Bill. What are you smoking? Bill O'Reilly is one of the most opinionated people of this planet. I may have to cancel my b&n card.

    Don't waste your time

I gave it a chance and it just wasn't good. Not a lot of fact. The little bit that is in there is twisted and unrecognizable. O'Reilly should retire. WASTE OF MONEY!

    Give Me a Break . . .

I'm amazed that people will even read anything written by the paranoid, self-promoting Mr. O'Reilly. I have spent the last 18 months wondering why all the crazies have suddenly come out of the closet, one of whom is Bill-O. I wouldn't read his nonsense if Barnes and Noble paid ME!!

    Demagoguery is Demagoguery

Thin-skinned, name-calling, scarecrow polemics? There are no original thoughts, so why not quote some others, whose wisdom drives the proverbial pin into the cushion.

"The Gospel according to Brady! God speaks to Brady, and Brady tells the world! Brady, Brady, Brady, Almighty!" Jerome Lawrence and
Robert E. Lee, "Inherit the Wind"

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." The Who

"My goodness, this man is so cocksure of himself, his boat could be sinking but he'd set a sail straight into the middle of a gale without a life jacket!" Alphonso Littleback on Joseph McCarthy, May 25, 1954, while watching the Army-McCarthy hearings on his Philco 3104 17" Console.

    Don't Bother

Anyone who calls a sitting President a Pinhead has no respect for himself or other human beings. If you can't state your opinion without denigrating someone else you don't really have an opinion worth sharing. Bill O'Reilly is suppose to be an educated man why is it that he cannot express his point of view in an intelligent manner? Name calling is the response of a limited mind.

Excellent Job Bill! I Think You Rate as a Patriot!

I have enjoyed Bill's show The Factor for several years now, especially his segment "Pinheads and Patriots." When I found out about this book I was thinking though I enjoy the brief segment each night, could he deliver a book that was as good. The answer is yes! What I really enjoyed about the book is that Bill explains that people can be both pinheads and patriots, meaning we all do noble and sometimes foolish things during our lifetime. It is the overall sum of what we do that gives us the overall label.

Bill uses both current figures (political and otherwise) as well as famous people in history and lets us know what they did for heartfelt reasons (patriot) and for selfish or stupid reasons (pinhead). He gives us a lot of insights and several presidents including copies of historical documents and letters. There is an interesting letter from President Eisenhower practically calling Robert Kennedy a "pinhead." Bill can't fathom why and goes on to defend why Kennedy was a "patriot." Bill distinguishes personal life issues(like Tiger Woods) from what people actually did for the public and humanity in coming up with his definition.

Other interesting letters include one from Teddy Roosevelt being very critical of Woodrow Wilson. I highly enjoyed this book and my only criticisms are that it was too short and also, Bill includes the text of his Obama interviews which I had already seen and could probably have gotten copies of elsewhere.

    Great Book

This book was excellent. I have read two of O'Reilly's books and this had to be favorite. It has come in great use in my history class and it gives the reader the ability to form thoughts on topics that you may have never thought about before.
