I spent a year from 1991-92 teaching English in Slovakia, the other less glamorous half of Czechoslovakia, but Mr. Lytle's experience mirrored mine in many ways. It has excellent insights on a society in transition and also mentions the excellent beers and dangerous diet of central Europe. He does not mention it directly, but implies that the best kept secret of the Cold War was what great people the Czechs and Slovaks are. The book is written with excellent humor and insight that a tourist passing through could not have managed. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
