I have been a fan of Weezer for ages and recently picked up this work. Although it differs from their debut, it is still attractive, and quite deep. I believe that true Weezer fans will appreciate Pinkerton, however those who are just fans of the singles may not be satisfied. Overall I believe that this is worthy of note, and quite essential to any 90s Alternative Rock collection.

This truly is a five star record and Weezer's finest hour, or half-hour if you will. As much as I respect the highly accesible and sentimental blue album, as well as the unfinished ambition of Songs From The Black Hole, I find it hard to believe that some still don't see why Pinkerton is a nearly perfect record. One could call it Rivers' '90s take on Pet Sounds, but certainly not because of the production. I say it resembles Pavement in terms of guitar sound, but that's a very vague notion that may make indie snobs squeamish. This more resembles that '60s landmark for the straightforward melodies, unlike Pavement's quirks, and the pinch of vocal harmonies. In addition, this is clearly a singer-songwriter record, and Rivers obviously really put himself out there with this material. Though parts lyrically can at first seem tongue-in-cheek, by the end of the record you are overcome with an emotion only true heartbreak records can bring you. It gives you a feeling no other Weezer record can, period. If you are new to the band, check out the blue album first as a taster, but don't forger to grab this soon after. Naysayers just don't get it and this truly is a lost '90s classic to hear for yourself.

Pinkerton went largely ignored, but I think that's because people just weren't ready for Weezer to create an album this good. It's raw, powerful, vulnerable, and dripping with (real) emotion. To me Pinkerton sounds like a very personal catharsis rather than a catchy album with no real artistic merit. It takes two or three listens to really get in tune with Pinkerton, but once you do it grabs hold and doesn't let go. One of the best albums out there, period.

I'm listening to Pinkerton thinking to myslef this doesn't sound like Weezer at all.But its still good stuff I gave it four stars because its definitly not Weezers best work but still definitly worth owning.

Pinkerton...ah...now that's a great refreshing album, despite the emo. I mean I don't have a real problem with it, but hey that doesn't change the record. Pinkerton is an awesome album with great lyrics & catchy melodies. "El Scorcho", "The Good Life", "Getchoo" and "Pink Triangle" are definetely key tracks. Over all a great album that follows up the '94 Blue Album perfectly.

I don't know why they discredit this album! This is alot better than their most reccent stuff! I'm listening to Make Believe right now and it just doesn't give me that Weezer feeling like Blue Album and Pinkerton did. Maybe in a few songs. I personally think that Weezer has gone astray. Pinkerton was great music! I don't care what you say, they say... or anyone else! :) After Pinkerton I really stopped listening to them... I feel they are targeting a younger audience.. when I hear some 15 yr old saying " Yeah Weezer is my favorite band, I loved their first album "Weezer" (Green album)" it made cringe... Sorry guys...this was the last of the best

Where has Weezer gone? This is the question I ask myself every time I put this album on. Pinkerton is an absolutely brilliant album, a true anthemic masterpiece, which Weezer hasn't even attempted to match since. I know Rivers has it in him, but he has chosen to produce bubblegum pop in the of fame instead. Please come back Weezer. I'm still waiting for another that showcases your ingenious talent.

I just thought I'd throw my two cents in about the whole emo thing. Weezer ain't emo. Not pre-emo, not post-emo, not anything remotely emo. They're pop-rock, or power pop, if that sounds cooler. But that doesn't change the fact that they're an amazing band, with a truly talented songwriter that knows just how to hook people in. A great album. It took me some time to get into it, since it was so different from the Blue Album, but that doesn't change the fact that this album is a must have.

This is the best music weezer has ever recorded. Rivers cuomo decided to record a raw, clumsy, personal record. A perfect follow up to their perfect first album. Songs like their singles, "The Good Life" and "El Scorcho" are stand outs, but all the songs are crafted to complete this masterpiece.

ummm, this is not pre emo, emo started in 1985 by a little band called rights of spring... so inn reality this album is 12 years post emo. if anyone one here knows what real emo is, they never sang about losing girlfriends, or crying in a corner... the songs were mostly political (examples: fugazi, at the drive-in, hot water music, etc.) weezer really does resemble emo music, emo music is extremly raw, and underly produced... and isn't that what this album is? dashboard and all those bands that are labeled as emo now are not, so stop calling them that.... listen to rite of spring and you will know what i mean.

WEEZER IS NOT EMO! This is not an emo album (it's over 5 years pre-emo (or, if you will, premo)). Weezer never was an emo band. Garage/nerd rock is actually their area of expertise, although essentially they area pop band. Now, pinkerton isn't a pop album, but it sure a hell isn't emo. Just please, stop worshiping your false idols. It is a great album, though, and the most consistent weezer album, although the blue album is probably better all things considered. I love pinkerton, but I just can't figure out why everybody keeps saying it's emo...

This is ridiculously good emo at its best. I love weezer and this is completely different than anything else they've done; its a change for the better. The music is raw and honest. Quick note: listen for Rivers' fetish for japonese girls who play the cello in three of the songs.

this is probaly the most depressing album from the 90's. from tired of sex to butterfly this album makes me want to cry. the songs are not complicated and artsy like most emo today, its straight to the point and the listener can relate to rivers situations. the songs are dark and even if they sound quirky like el schorco, there is something sad about it.

This orgasmic album will leave you begging to listen to it over and over and over again. Ignore its initial inaccessibility and really try to disect the sound and lyrics. Or just focus on that great sensation the music gives you because Rivers Cuomo is such a brilliant musician. Who else would think to base a raw, screeching, edgy album off the opera Madama Butterfly? For any open-minded listener, this record will be some of the greatest music you've ever heard. No doubt within one week of first hearing it you'll be yelling down hallways the lyrics of "The Good Life," "El Scorcho," "Pink Triangle," or any other track for that matter. It took me three months in the CD player to even listen to another CD. It's that incredible.

please, for your sake, for my sake, for weezer's sake, buy this album. this album convinced me that weezer are better than the smiths. it's THAT good. i actually broke down crying when i saw pinkerton on the all music guide site because i suddenly realised how much i love this album. it's THAT good. i listened to pinkerton in bed every night for two months. i still listen to it at least once a month. it's THAT good. so in conclusion, pinkerton is criminally underrated, will make you cry and is superb value for money. it has been recognised more recently by critcs to be excellent and was even #76 in pitchfork's 100 greatest albums of the 90s. what are you waiting for? buy it the next time you're in a record store!

before i was tipped off by a friend i didn't even know this album existed.i was a fan of this band before i heard Pinkerton, and my obseesion was only further confirmed when i heard this album. Not only is the music less poppy, but the lyrics have a more rebellious care-free attitude that makes this a great album. In my opinion, the best tracks are "tired of sex" "the good life" and "el scorcho". so listen up because this is the BEST album weezer has ever released and it also goes on my top ten......no wait..top five list of freakin good albums.

Pinkerton is the best weezer album. I enjoy the lyrics. Rivers did an excellent job. Very meaningful. Buy it... You will cry it's so perfect.

Weezer is my fav band. My personal list in the #1 spot would be Pinkerton #2 Maladroit #3 Blue & last #4 Green. I think Rolling Stone can stick it. Pinkerton by far is there best work.

Pinkerton changed all guidelines that Weezer's freshmen album set. This burst of feelings coming from the writer, Rivers, is electrifying, as well as entertaining. If you pay attention to the lyrics, it tells a story of his failures in love. This is my favorite of the (4) current albums, and i suggest it highly. This album has more mature phrases, so i suggest about 12-13 and up.

From the pounding, primal assault of the opening track, "Tired of Sex," it's clear from the outset that Pinkerton is a different record than the sunny, heavy guitar pop of Weezer's eponymous debut. The first noticeable difference is the darker, messier sound -- the guitars rage and squeal, the beats are brutal and visceral, the vocals are mixed to the front, filled with overlapping, off-the-cuff backing vocals. In short, it sounds like the work of a live band, which makes it all the more ironic that Pinkerton, at its core, is a singer/songwriter record, representing Rivers Cuomo's bid for respectability. Since he hasn't changed Weezer's blend of power pop and ...
