But the Dads are resourceful, and the great outdoor weekend becomes a great indoor weekend with a visit to a cavern, reptile museum, puppet maker's studio, train museum, indoor miniature golf course and even a "camp in." Best of all, Pinky and Rex agree, was spending time with their Dads. Sweet's watercolor illustrations complement the text and show readers that these two children and their families are just ordinary people who know how to have fun in spite of the weather and enjoy being together. Meet the Author

James Howe is the author of over eighty books for young readers, including the modern classic Bunnicula and its highly popular sequels. In 2001, Howe published The Misfits, the story of four outcast seventh-graders who try to end name-calling in their school. The Misfits is now widely read and studied in middle schools throughout the country, and was the inspiration for the national movement known as No Name-Calling Week , an event observed by thousands of middle and elementary schools annually. Totally Joe, a companion novel to The Misfits, was published in 2005, and a second companion novel, Addie on the Inside, is being published in 2011. Howe’s many other books for children from preschool through teens frequently deal with the acceptance of difference and being true to oneself.

Melissa Sweet has illustrated more than eighty children’s books, including the Caldecott Honor book A River of Words: The Story of William Carlos Williams by Jen Bryant. She also wrote and illustrated Tupelo Rides the Rails; Carmine: A Little More Red, which was a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book; and Balloons Over Broadway, a picture book biography that was named a 2011 Publishers Weekly Best Nonfiction Picture Book. When she is not in her studio, Melissa can be found taking an art class, hiking with her dogs, or riding her bicycle. She lives with her family in Rockport, Maine.
