    Not for the Novice

I have used pinnacle products for about a year now, (am using studio 10.5.2.2 now) and am convinced it is the best product on the market for the money. I would not suggest the program for the novice or a person who frustrates easily, the program can be temperamental, but with a little patience, the rewards are an unparalleled video that rivals professional digital editing. The processor speed is less important (3 gigahertz is enough) than a good 256 Meg FX video card and 2 gigabytes of DDR Ram. Use a separate drive to render, store and burn your DVD¿s (an external 250 USB drive that spins at 7500 RPM and is formatted in NTFS works great). Invest in a digital flat screen that has digital output this results in a pure digital transfer without the need to transfer analog to digital. Close all of your background programs when you use pinnacle, use Adware, or a similar program to remove ad-robots that will slow down the fastest computers and use the Sony products, Sony seem to work better than other media. This is an amazing program, which allows you to transpose incredibly complex special effects editing for a nominal cost. I don¿t think its fair for pinnacle to get the bad rap because of novice users or the easily frustrated.

Get this book the problems with Studio+ go away

I agree with the first reviewer so I won't get technical. The comlaints about Studio are solved using Mr. Ozers advise, then you will see the power, ease of use and the fun you will have editing your video. The book is big and loaded with information but it is a good read that a novice and pro will enjoy. I have Premiere 2.0. I can do the same things in Studio after reading this book. Mr Ozer address some of the technical isssues Studio has, now thats honest. Get this book and give Studio 10+ another try. All the money I spent on a Prosumer Camcorder, external hard drive, 21' wide hd monitor and editing sofware now are justified. Join the book club and this book is really worth it but I would get it anyway even at full retail price, that's how good it is.

Great Book for Studio 10 or 10+

Pinnacle Studio 10 and 10+ is a disaster. The tech problems are abundant, if you own a copy I need not explain further. Yet it is a fantastic video editing program. Pinnacle is supposed to address this shortly. I have 10+ and purchased this book, Mr. Ozer does a great job in explaing how to get 110% out of the product. In some cases how to over come some of the flaws. Buy it you won't regret it.

Put the manual aside and start here

I first bought the precursor book, Pinnacle Studio 9, but after upgrading to Studio 10, I knew I had to upgrade to Jan Ozer's new book. It is my Studio bible, and I rarely go through a project without referencing it several times, or scanning through to my dog-eared pages to remind me to do something. I only do amateur home-video creations, but with Pinnacle Studio and this book, I've made many a family member smile and laugh. From the use of shortcuts, to computer maintenance, to shooting good video, to excellent examples, Mr. Ozer has created a guide that anyone even semi-computer literate could follow. He does it in a way that if you need more assistance, you can read it more slowly, but for the more expert user, the book is laid out to get your information quickly. Chapters are broken up nicely, so you can find what you're looking for faster, e.g. he has both an analog and a digital chapter, so if you don't have analog equipment, you can skip that section, and vice versa. Several examples show a concept with both a simple version and how more complex and fun methods can be deployed. Finally, two of my favorite parts are the tips and the sidebars. The tips give quick summaries and real world advice about the information that precedes it. The sidebars are more in-depth tips that help you make informed choices or provide definition to concepts that you've always wondered about, like, should I use +R or -R DVD media? Should I use background rendering? What type of digital output should I use when I'm designing a Web page? What can I expect from the clean-up video functions? This is definitely a one-stop book for all of your Pinnacle Studio, video and computer questions and I highly recommend it.
