If this was how Pinocchio was really supposed to go, it would never be a Disney movie. The beginning part of the book gives you the history on how Pinocchio was originally written, which again is no Disney feature. I never knew that Pinocchio was such a dark character, but it makes complete since. Why else have a wooden nose that grows back every time he lies, if not to snap it off and be used as a stake in vampire slaying. Yep. Makes sense.
The story is dark and twisted, but still has some humor in it. I like graphic novels that aren’t focused on superheros and while Pinocchio is still doing some superhero work, it doesn’t feel forced. The bad guys are simply that, bad guys, and the good guys are good. It’s pretty cut and dry when it comes to that portion. I’ll be picking up the follow up to see where the story goes.
