I am a huge fan of film scores, Hans Zimmer, and especially Pirates of the Caribbean. When I heard of the release of a fourth film the first thing I could not wait for was the music! I had extremely high expectations and I am disheartened to admit that this album did not meet them. I love the new themes: Angelica, Blackbeard. The use of flamenco guitar is brilliant in representing the Spaniards and Angelica. Another positive and absolute must is the use of some familiar character themes to tie the 4 films together such as the favorite, Jack's theme, and Barbossa's theme. What disappointed me is the repetitive use of themes from the past films that are not relevant to this new film. I would have enjoyed a nod to the trilogy but a mostly new set of themes to represent this new adventure. Hearing so many pieces from the trilogy takes me back to Davy Jones, Will & Elizabeth, and Lord Becket rather than luring me onto "stranger tides." It also seems somewhat complacent to throw in music that's already written and has worked in the past rather than taking new risks. That said, I do enjoy the revamped At World's End theme for the Mermaids track. Final disappointment is that this album has 5-10 min less film score music than the last two albums and I could do with slightly less remixed music though a couple is great. In all, a good album but not 5 stars.

I got this cd for my birthday with a gift card. The hardest thing was waiting for the release date. I swear, this is the BEST Pirates soundtrack out of all the movies. I was trepiditious because I wasn't sure if the music would totally change -despite the fact that Hans Zimmer was doing the music - because it's the 4th movie and stuff. I thought that with their fresh new plot that the musice would be changed totally.
Thank God it wans't - they added a great, great flamenca sound guitar sound done by the awesome Rodrigo y Gabriela. It is so cool. We have all the themes from the previous three movies, plus some new music. Even some of the remixes are done very well.
If you loved the movie, or even if it's just because of CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow. This soundtrack will fullfill all your fantasy's. Unless you absolutly know you'll hate it. Whcih would be a shame and you have to walk the plank.

All Music Guide - Thom Jurek
Another cinematic episode in the continuing Pirates of the Caribbean franchise means another Hans Zimmer soundtrack...right? Well, yes and no. It's true that Zimmer, with his trademarked European sense of flair, has scored Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides with his usual orchestra and choir, but there are a couple of twists to make things even more interesting. Zimmer, a longtime fan of virtuoso acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela from Mexico, decided to incorporate them into his score, which is rich in Latin and flamenco themes. They are prominently featured on no less than five cues here. In fact, it's more like the selections that include Rodrigo y Gabriela...
