Directed by Gore Verbinski (The Ring, The Mexican), Pirates of the Caribbean -- The Curse of The Black Pearl parlays the action and romance of Disney's theme park attraction to the big screen, with a touch of the supernatural thrown in for good measure. Composers Klaus Badelt (The Recruit) and Hans Zimmer (The Lion King), who have collaborated on the scores for Gladiator and Hannibal, join forces once again on Pirates, with the Academy Award–winning Zimmer serving as producer. The disc opens with a few bars of a deceptively merry melody played on a solo cello. Then, like a sudden plunge into the deep, pulsating horns and violins usher in a darker passage. "The Medallion Calls" follows, again with a brief, romantic orchestral introduction to what becomes a sweeping section with a wordless male chorus, brass, and taut strings conveying a sense of adventure and excitement that reaches an ominous climax. It's a melody that recurs throughout the score, with each variation signalling dark and dangerous doings. In a final burst of fireworks, "He's a Pirate" serves as an orchestral coda to this rousing salute to those tales of derring-do that can, at least in dreams, make pirates of us all.

All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
The soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean was originally composed by Alan Silvestri, who left the project prior to the film's release. Credited to Klaus Badelt, a protégé of Hans Zimmer, it was hastily assembled at the last minute, resulting in a paint-by-numbers exercise in big studio fluff that required the work of several unnamed composers. Badelt and his mysterious co-conspirators have created a schizophrenic pastiche of Hollywood excess -- much like the film itself -- disguised as a traditional score. The swashbuckling is propelled by an instantly unmemorable -- albeit rousing -- motif that contains bits of every action score in existence. "Fog Bound" starts off with a sprightly Celtic flair before dissolving into a generic Jerry Bruckheimer wash of keyboard strings and synthetic flute patches. This is the case for much of the record, resulting in inspired flashes of creativity here and there.

I know that the director of 'The Ring' wanted to take on a project that was more or less massive in nature, and he did. Although the film had a somewhat slow start, it took on an action packed role, and ended in sorrow and loss. I did not enjoy the film, nor the music, however the visual effects were astonishing. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom togther was interesting since they both look the same to me, the film was long, slow and the music was the same.

From the moment the music starts you know that you are in for the ride of your life! It is a wild adventure from the beginning. The music is fast paced yet good. The orchestra is amazing and the music is real. It brings out the pirate in all of us. At the end of the cd...you want to start the music all over again hoping for more adventure.

As far as movie soundtracks go this is top notch. If you liked the music from Gladiator, Blackhawk Down, and other movies with powerfull Sounds then i think you will enjoy this soundtrack. Also if you enjoyed the movie then i think you will find this album satisfying!

I never ONCE thought that I would actually LIKE instrumental music, but I let myself buy this soundtrack on a whim. After seeing the movie, who wouldn't! And let me tell you, the music is JUST as good as the movie was, and the movie was excellent! It even like had me humming along! It's actually full of very moving pieces that you feel that you can actually dance to, like Johnny Depp was doing on all the ships in the movie, until you remember it's instrumental! Buy this people!

It takes a lot for me to run out after seeing a movie to buy the score soundtrack for because usually the background music isn't all that great. After seeing 'Pirates of the Caribbean' I knew I needed to have this wonderful collection of music. Listening to it lets me replay those awesome scenes from the movie in my head while I wait until the dvd comes out. Even if you didn't see the movie this is a score that everyone can love. It's filled with action packed themes that have a 'swashbuckling' feel to them. I love this soundtrack so much!!

As a huge John Williams fan, I have very high exspectations, but this came very close to meeting them. The music is definatly very pirate-y and does a lot to enhance the movie. The CD doesn't contain the best of the score, and it gets repetitive, but it's definatly worth it to shell out the twenty bucks for this recording.

This soundtrack is every pirates dream!!! Hans Zimmer takes traditional instruments and turns classical styles into modern day adventures. As a dancer and music lover this music is everything I look for in a piece and not to mention an amazing accompanyment to this summer's best movie. With an amazing cast, great plot, and out of this world CG animation, this music is just what it needs to cap it off. It'll have everyone who hears it saying "aaarrrr...a pirates life for me matey!!!

This is, by far, the best soundtrack this year. It is perfect for the movie and superb when you play it at home as well. A better job could not have been done.

I loved this soundtrack. The music is strong and stirring - it made me feel as if I was tight there with Johnny Dep swash buckling by his side. This music is inspiring withplenty of punch. I feel that Klaus Dadelt captured the essence of the movie, making the music dark when necessary, soft when needed and gutsy at the rights parts. This is a soundtrack that I use to get me motivated and has become a do not remove item from my cd player.

The "Pirates" score is powerful and well written, especially in the context of the movie. It is reminiscent of Hans Zimmer's "Gladiator." There are few main themes, but those few are very commanding. The differences between the "good pirate" theme and the "bad pirate" theme allow a listener to tell what is happening by the music alone. As the themes are general and recurring often it seems like you are listening to the same track over and over again. In general it is a very good score.

If you loved the movie you will enjoy this cd....just don't drive while listening because the rousing music will make you go faster than you intended! My only complaint is that it's too short! Come on Disney, release a full length version, include the music from the ending credits, and I'll buy it again!

This is a wonderfully fun, catchy cd that begs to be listened to again and again. The deep, ominous cellos, the snappy violins and the booming beat of the drums bring the movie to life and conjure pictures of pirates, skeletons, sword fights and the open seas. I love this cd!!!!

The music that accompanies the movie is by far one of my favorites. The movie was excellent and this soundtrack is unbelievable. The score is amazing. I especially loved when the pirates were fighting in the cave...the music was spectacular!! I am going to love listening to the music over and over again.
