More About This Book

Overview

When the security director of the powerful corporation Nebulaco dies under mysterious circumstances, courier Sai Collins has one last top-secret delivery to make on his behalf. Sai has come a long way from her street-kid childhood, but she has her secrets—namely that she’s a cyber-psi, a computer telepath who can connect to the grid without hardware.

A talent she’s going to desperately need.

Because when she arrives at the drop point on a neighboring planet to make the delivery, she’s ambushed by heavily armed goons and barely escapes with her life. Sai soon realizes that she’s in the middle of something far more complex and far-reaching than she ever imagined, and if she’s going to make it out of this alive, she’ll have to turn to a couple of unlikely heroes: the charming, down-on-his-luck pilot Hank Jensen and jaded private investigator Mike Chandler, who follows no one’s rules but his own. Their mission: take down the most dangerous pirate in the galaxy.

The simplest way to say it, is that Pirates of Outrigger Rift is a fun read. If you enjoy space pirates, dirty corporations, and drunken starship pilots, you’ll probably enjoy it. I certainly did. It has a nice balance of action, intrigue, humor, and even a little romance.

When I read a book that is co-written I always worry about having to deal with two separate voices in my head, but that’s not the case here. It has been melded together well enough that it sounds like one person wrote the book instead of two. It has a good pace as well. A lot of sci fi stories become boring for me when too much time is spent just explaining things. Personally I don’t need to know that your ship runs off a crystal infused hyper delux flux capacitor. For me, you can just say space ship and I’m good. However, I understand that some people enjoy more details, which is why I always credit authors who can seem to find the balance. They explain some of the tech well enough that it makes sense, and is imaginable, but they don’t beat you over the head with it either.

All in all, this was a pretty great book, and I hope that we get to see a sequel.
