Overview

All theatres have a fascination and mystery about them. This account by Mia Nadasi of life in the world of ballet during the days of Soviet rule is an insight into the daily life of the artists of the Budapest Opera at that time. This is a rare account of interest to those of us who come from a world which at the time worked very differently. The lives of the daughter and father both immersed in their chosen endeavours reveal so much about the discipline, hopes and fears of artists during that particular time of Hungary. Time passes so quickly it is easy to forget but with Pirouettes and Passions these years in the history of lyric theatre in Hungary and its protagonists will not be forgotten.
