A small group of young adults are gathered to mark an event. They live out their ceremony as in a medieval play with appropriate costumes and open air setting. But a murderer stalks them and awaits his moment to act: he will execute each and every one of them. Inspector Wallender is able to get into the mind of the killer. He is thus successfull in stamping out the killing rampage, but not until after more people die and his own life is threatened. This novel is thoroughly enjoyable because its author, Henning Mankell, has developed an exquisite style, expressed a profound knowledge of human psychology, and delivered a believable set of characters. Was this review helpful?
