Overview

She’d be the perfect catch if he could take his eye off the ball.

Boys of Summer, Book 1

Emmy Kasper knows exactly how lucky she is. In a sport with few opportunities for women at the pro level, she’s just landed her dream job as head athletic trainer for the San Francisco Felons baseball team. Screwing up is not an option.

She’s lost in thought as she pedals to the spring training facility, her mind abuzz with excitement as she rounds a corner—and plows head-on into two runners. The end of her career dances before her eyes when she realizes she’s almost run over the star pitcher.

As Tucker Lloyd watches the flustered Emmy escape with his bandana tied around her skinned knee, the view is a pleasant change from worrying about his flagging fastball. At thirty-six, the tail end of his career is glimmering on the horizon. If he can’t pull something extraordinary out of his ball cap, the new crop of rookies could make this season his last.

The last thing either of them needs is a distraction.

The last thing either of them expects is love.

Warning: Contains a down-on-his-luck pitcher, a good-girl athletic therapist, chemistry that’s out of the park and sexy times that’ll make them round all the bases.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In this charming contemporary, the first of the Boys of Summer sports-themed series, Dean (Something Secret This Way Comes) tells the tale of athletic trainer Emmy Kasper and major-league pitcher Tucker Lloyd. Emmy has just taken a position as the head athletic trainer for the San Francisco Felons. The daughter of a former major-league star and one of the first women in her field to reach such heights, Emmy’s out to prove she doesn’t need the family name to succeed. Tucker, who has spent a year off the field enduring surgery and physical therapy, is equally committed to his former glory. Neither one expects to fall in love. This sexy story won’t disappoint, and readers will want to follow the other engaging characters for many books to come. (Aug.)

    Cute

    ## I really wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed. There was no conflict. 600 pages and no conflict? Huh. I kept waiting for something, but nothing. Don't get me wrong, I liked it - just couldn't love it. The baseball aspect was tremendous if you love the game as much as I do. I also really liked the hero. He wasn't the typical arrogant man-slut (thank you to the author for THAT). He was sweet, honest and confident (as opposed to cocky). What I didn't like: The heroine seemed wishy washy. I like that she held an important job in a man's world (my daughter also works with professional athletes), but the way she kept looking down at her feet belied her confidence. And I didn't like how she handled her boyfriend situation at all. Hiding from both him and the hero was cowardly in my opinion. She let it go on for months. Last but not least, the ending was abrupt. After spending several hours reading a book, I like myself a nice satisfying ending. Just ok for me.

    Liked It!!!

This was a very good book... Strong characters and a nice storyline. Similar to a couple of other books I have read but that's OK... The only thing I didn't like about the book was that it was another abrupt ending. Hopefully I will see more of Emmy and Tucker in the next book in the Boys of Summer Series. Reading this book was also timely because the Felons (name of baseball team) were trying to make it to the World Series and I was watching the second game of the Red Sox/Detroit Tigers playoff game while reading. Pretty cool!!

Tucker is a baseball pitcher from a San Francisco Felons who is almost at the end of his career. After a major surgery, a sports trainer…a very attractive trainer, is brought in to help him recover. Of course, Emmy is not single , but that status does not last very long. Well, working with these players, I would hope I’d be single too. Don’t get me wrong, it won’t be an easy rode for this couple. There will be a little angst, lots of tension but plenty of flirting, sexy scenes and don’t forget…baseball.

I thoroughly enjoyed this new sports novel. It has good humor, very sweet and sexy scenes , and I love the characters. I thought Tucker was a sweetheart. I really enjoyed that he was straight forward with his feelings and attractions for Emmy. And his overall persona just screamed sexy. Emmy on the other hand, wasn’t all that sexy to me, even if I went that way =). But what I did find attractive was her independence. I love that she is standing on her own in an unfamiliar city. Anyone that can do that even for a job earns my respect. Ms. Dean did a great job with these two. I like her writing and the voices she gave her characters. She also did an awesome job with the setting. Certain scenes in the book that mentioned places, scenery or neighborhood was pretty accurate.

Ms. Dean created a charming love story between a pitcher, his trainer and their love for the game. Pitch Perfect is an awesome and sweet read.

Great read!  I really enjoyed this book even though I  am not a huge baseball fan.  There was plenty of good dialogue and some sexy stuff too but not raunchy.

    Great Read!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters and storyline were well written and developed. The romance was hot and I loved what they went through to get to the place they needed to be. I will definitely read more of this series. :)
