Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-7 Unlike most other baseball ``how-to'' books, Pitcher is concerned with only one position. This allows Sullivan to include more complete information than one would find in the pitching sections of books such as Coombs' Be a Winner in Baseball (Morrow, 1973; o.p.) or Cooke's Better Baseball for Boys (Dodd, 1959; o.p.). Topics covered include proper delivery from both the stretch and wind-up, the different grips for different pitches, developing control, strategy, fielding the position, attitude and arm care. The numerous photographs are most helpful in illustrating the various grips and so on, but Madden's cartoons are purely ornamental (and might make the book seem too juvenile to suit junior high readers). Aspiring ``Cy Young'' winners will no doubt greet this book with enthusiasm. Elaine Fort Weischedel, Turner Free Library, Randolph, Mass.
