For some, the Devil introduces himself as an average man. For others, he crushes their souls and makes them bleed. For Jack Harper, the Devil renders himself a savior.
But things are changing.

Once a loyal follower of Cyrus and an accomplished killer, Jack Harper now begins to question everything. There are new, strange forces at work that are intruding on Jack's kills, abilities, and very being. Maybe, though, deep down Jack has been waiting for this intrusion, and maybe Cyrus is not as powerful as he seems.

I enjoyed this book.Quite a twist. Made me rethink much of what I read. I'd like to read book 2 but can't find it.

The twist isn't really a twist, more of a 'haha I tricked you' from the author. It makes you think but at the same time it's just...Really? And a lot before it pointed to the opposite. Lots and lots of pointless sexual stuff and drug use. It is an okay read, I'd reccommend it if you can't find anything better. The ending is 'meh,' but at least it isn't enough of a cliffhanger to make you want to read the next in the series.

Dark and disturbing. Almost felt evil. I couldn't finish the book because each page I read just made me feel wretchedly wrong. I read pretty much anything...until now. Jp

Finding this story original in some ways to approach the fight between good & evil. Protaganist well drawn- world unique- some very original descriptive sentences- a very good twist -looking forward to next

In a good way! There was quite the surprise twist too. All in all i want more of this story. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this author!

This book is really well written, which surprised me considering it is free.  The main character is likable, and her story is told through (easy to follow) flashbacks.  Barlow left out no part of her life--she explained everything that happened and left no ambiguity--which is satisfying. This book is dark, being that it examines the "cult", and normally I do not like that type of thing, however this book drew me in and I could not put it down. The storyline is like nothing I have ever read before, it is imaginative and unique.  I am glad I took a chance on this book.

Weird in the beginning, but give it time and it makes sense. Definitely didn't see the "twist" coming - and that's unusual for me. Overall, good enough that I'd like to check out the 2nd book when it comes out.

I personally, did not care for the story. Couldn't even finish. Was a waste of time. It should get one point of a star. Not even half

The book starts in such a way that i felt like i missed something. But continuing on opened my mind and changed my perceptions. I cant wait to read the next book.

I loved this book. I was unsure at first, given some of the reviews, but i can't wait for book 2. I disagreed with several reviews talking about the disjointed feel. To me the scene changes help to support the world as Jack may feel it. The unorthdox use of language was refreshing and intelligent. This usage helps to show the characters as what they are, more than mindless druggies drifting through life. Intelligent people with an intriguing story. I wish more writers would make full use of language to paint their pictures. This story had a classic feel, reminiscent of Salinger, updated for subject matter and times.

Intriguing read. Took a while to get into but then could not wait to see what came next. I would be interested to see what book two has to offer but like many who have reviewed this first one i have not found it.
