For some, the Devil introduces himself as an average man. For others, he crushes their souls and makes them bleed. For Jack Harper, the Devil renders himself a savior.
But things are changing.

Once a loyal follower of Cyrus and an accomplished killer, Jack Harper now begins to question everything. There are new, strange forces at work that are intruding on Jack's kills, abilities, and very being. Maybe, though, deep down Jack has been waiting for this intrusion, and maybe Cyrus is not as powerful as he seems.

Intriguing read. Took a while to get into but then could not wait to see what came next. I would be interested to see what book two has to offer but like many who have reviewed this first one i have not found it.

    more from this reviewer

At first I wasn't sure I could get into the story. It has typo's that made things harder to grasp in a book with more twists and turns than a theme park map. But then, it all clicked and the story got more blasphemous, decadently so, and more bizarre, more surreal and then I had to wonder if it's all a heroin dream, or a dream with heroin and I couldn't stop reading it. Lines like "They expect from me a flicker, and I give them stars". Descriptive, beautiful, at times poetic and at other times incredibly disturbing in that 'can't look away' variety. Looking forward to finding out more about Jack!

    ?

The twist isn't really a twist, more of a 'haha I tricked you' from the author. It makes you think but at the same time it's just...Really? And a lot before it pointed to the opposite.

Lots and lots of pointless sexual stuff and drug use.

It is an okay read, I'd reccommend it if you can't find anything better. The ending is 'meh,' but at least it isn't enough of a cliffhanger to make you want to read the next in the series.

This was a freebie and didn't expect much but I was happily surprized. I loved the twist and can't wait to get into book 2!

    You'll keep thinking about it

At times difficult to follow and too wordy in places, but the concept and the characters are well concieved and interesting. There is a definte twist towards the end which colors everything you've just read in a very different light and while i like this light a lot better, i couldn't help feeling a little duped; almost as though you could feel the author's triumph and delight intruding into the scene. All the details that pointed to it earlier in the book get lost at the time because the story and manner of the telling are so bizarre-- i found myself hating the editor for the inconsistancies rather than questioning the nature of Jack in and of itself. The book is so strange and disjointed that this twist is unnessary and should have been introduced much earlier, say during a scene when Jack was a child, or the first kill perhaps (real kill, not Roland). In any case, i can highly reccomend the read and would love to read the next one in the trilogy, though i can't seem to find it anywhere.
