Overview

The New York Times bestselling author of Naturally Thin and The Skinnygirl Dish, Bethenny Frankel takes us on an empowering journey to A PLACE OF YES

BETHENNY FRANKEL’S no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is personality won over countless fans, and made her a nationally bestselling author and the star of her own hit Bravo show Bethenny Getting Married? Now Bethenny opens up and shares the obstacles she overcame and the great success she has enjoyed while discovering how to approach life from “A Place of Yes.” Bethenny’s path was not always clear as she overcame a difficult childhood, failed relationships, entrepreneurial efforts that never quite got off the ground, and lifelong money struggles. To deal with these challenges, Bethenny developed ten rules for pursuing her goals with authenticity and drive, including:

FIND YOUR TRUTH: Dig deep inside and figure out what is authentic for you, not anybody else.

ACT ON IT: You don’t have to have a master plan. But unless you do something, you’ve done nothing.

EVERYTHING’S YOUR BUSINESS: Treat every job, person, and experience as if it could lead to your next big opportunity.

OWN IT: If you do it, say it, think it—then own it. Stand up for yourself and fully acknowledge who you really are.

Each rule is illustrated with compelling, sometimes funny, sometimes outrageous examples that are pure Bethenny. It’s easy to say no, to say “I can’t,” to expect the worst, and to doubt yourself. But your life can be better than “not bad” or “good enough.” It can be amazing. And by putting Bethenny’s rules together, you can use them to be more successful, more fulfilled, healthier, and happier than ever before.

“An intensely personal guide that stands apart from the pack.”

Bethenny Ever After star Frankel puts her mouth where her money is with this list of rules for getting what you want out of life, while remaining true to yourself and your goals. After early disappointments, Frankel developed 10 rules to guide her own life. Some are genre staples—"Break the Chain" and "Act on It." Others are more unique, such as "All Roads Lead to Rome," wherein the author outlines the "great mistake" of her BethennyBakes effort by way of assuring that "as long as you are working hard and doing your best...everything you do will eventually get you where you want to go." Other rules include always being prepared for networking opportunities, acting on available opportunities, and distinguishing yourself from the pack, and come full of advice about ignoring "Money," "Desperation," "Truth," and other "Noises" that will likely plague success strivers. In relaying her rules, Frankel also shares an extensive biography of her experiences in business, television, relationships, and family, resulting in a familiar but intensely personal guide that, yes, stands apart from the pack. Having read Bethenny's two previous books, I was looking forward to this one and pre-ordered it. "A Place of Yes" did not disappoint. Some of us seem to need a reminder that we're not crazy or strange, and in this book Bethenny does that and more. She's the voice of reason, the girlfriend you most identify with, the sister you wish you had. If you grew up in a stable household and are still married to your high school boyfriend, this might not the book for you. But if your family is nuts, or you've ever felt lost or you want more out of life, Bethenny's honesty in telling her own story rubs off on you and you can't help but feel better knowing that someone just like you has picked herself up again and again (and vows to do so for the rest of her life) and is glad she did. I use suggestions from this book and her others every day (I lost 40 pounds after I read "Naturally Thin" and have kept it off for more than a year). I think back to her words often, especially when I need that push to accomplish a goal. She's changed my life. Give her a chance, maybe she'll change yours.

I'm not one to think that one book can change anyone's life, but this book was so inspirational. After watching Bethenny's success story on Bravo,I picked up this book. It gives you all the steps to finding a place of yes along with stories from Bethenny's personal life that pertain to each of the guidelines. I am half Bethenny's age and attending college, and let me telly you that this book applies to all ages. I'm already recommending that my mother, my grandmother, and my aunt read this. It applies to all walks of life as well and I believe that everyone can get something out of this book. This book never tells you who you should be, but encourages you to be truthful to yourself and do what is authentic for you. I've come a long way in finding my place of yes and I hope you can do the same!

I always enjoy Bethenny's honesty and wisdom. She shares her trials and tribulations, as well as what she could have done differently. I love the fact that she totally owns every moment- good and bad.

Not sure about getting a celebrity's book but I loved Benthenny and thought ok. This was a very good book. I have been through a lot since I was sixteen and always wanted success for myself. Now with two kids, cats, a dog, a husband, and a house it was time for my success, so I went back to school. Still currently in school and a year from being done you need motivation sometimes. I am going for my Masters and being in school for so long eventually drags you down. This book gave me back the motivation I have lost. I am once again looking at the big picture. Cannot wait to finish college and get that career for me!!!! It is my turn for ME! This book was not only motivational it gave great examples and you got to know a little more about Bethenny. Thanks Bethenny this is the motivation I needed.

This book outlines important steps in anyone's life in moving towards their desired life. Written in very simple language, it that takes a while to get use to, but the messages ring true none-the-less. I appreciated the concept of "noise", it is an interesting approach in identifying mental negativity. My favorite chapters are Rules 3 to 6, which for me was the heart of the book and the most exciting parts in how they related to her life story.. Overall its a good read that I would recommend.

I have never watched an episode of Real Housewives. I don't like reality tv. But I read something about Betthany Frankel and it caught my interest. My first impression of her was that she was a rich housewife, yada yada yada. Not interesting. Then I saw some little blub about her and suddenly she seemed like a regular person. She has a weird relationship with her mother, no father figure really, how she got to be so successful was intriging to me. This book reads more like an autobiography. I loved reading about her life and how she dealt with situations. That to me, is the interesting part. I recommend this book because it's interesting. She does make good points about how to be successful and how to be true to yourself. That is her real success - she just wants to be the best Betthany she can be. She knows were are all different and unique and she wants you to celebrate that uniqueness and feel ok about being "you". The stories from her past jobs, relationships and her childhood, are very interesting. We can all relate to those things. She took all those experiences, kept the good and through out the bad (like testing a recipe) and found herself each step of the way. Self help book? Sort of. Autobiography? Sort of. Unique and interesting. Definitely. I hope there are more books to come from her. I'll keep buying.
