With Plan A, business as usual, we have neglected these issues overly long. In Plan B 3.0, Lester R. Brown warns that the only effective response now is a World War II-type mobilization like that in the United States after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
For the most part, I thought this was a good book that everyone should read. It addresses most of the issues our world currently faces (poverty, deforestation, hunger, water shortages, climate change, etc). Not only does he discuss the problems, but he also posits solutions. Although I sometimes felt that the solutions were over-simplified, he does lay out a step-by-step plan that will get us started in solving many of the world's woes. That's the best part of the book, in my opinion, because you begin to realize that our situation is not hopeless. On the other hand, it's frustrating to think that there are straightforward and cheap(!) steps that we could be taking right now, but are not. Other than writing to my congresspersons, I feel a little at a loss as to how to help move this along.
Again, I do feel that a lot has been simplified, but I think his main points are valid and the more people that read this and push for change, the better!

Brown presents Plan B 3.0 as the way to reverse global warming and to become more eco-friendly by using renewable resources rather than the harmful use of fossil fuels. He also offers an education system that would be applied world wide in order to maintain a thorough and fair intelligence quota. He also provides routes in which to eliminate adult illiteracy and world hunger. His goals include a budget which would equate to 170 billion a year for global restoration. This may seem like a lot but it is in fact only 1/6th of the global military spending annually. Therefore his entire plan is possible. That is if everyone realized that something needs to be done about the environment and if not, then someday soon it will no longer sustain us.
