Kids love this book--the rhyming makes learning fun and easy to memorize the order and descriptions of the planets...and pluto. Our 4 and 5-year-olds have chosen this book for 2 weeks straight for their bedtime story. And they really enjoy picking a sticker at the end to place in space.

This informational text, written in the form of a rhyme, offers many facts about the solar system. The "glossary" section also offers definitions of words associated with solar system study. Most appealing to young readers are the stickers in the back of the book. The beautiful illustrations add to the quality of this book. Side note: this book was written when Pluto was still a planet! Uses in the classroom: *Build prior knowledge for unit study of the solar system *Model/teach writing in rhyme (even non-fiction can be written in rhyme!)Pair with: Science text book "Delicious" quote:"This is our home, our planet, our Earth, the cradle of life, the place of our birth. Lined up behind Venus, cloudy and dry, the brightest planet in the nighttime sky."

This is an accessible and visually interesting introduction to the solar system for kids from pre-school to kindergarten. The verses could be better written, but I don't think kids mind the slightly irregular grammar!
