Myrtle Beach is the center of a fifty-five-mile stretch of South Carolina known as the Grand Strand. Few regions in the nation can boast of a richer, more colorful history. Founding fathers, swaggering pirates, Revolutionary War heroes, bright and beautiful women, wealthy rice planters, determined settlers, all played a part in the remarkable history of this hugely popular southern resort. Planters, Pirates, and Patriots introduces the reader to this uniquely American region through fifteen unforgettable stories about fascinating figures from the past and sweeps across the history of the South Carolina Grand Strand.
