Children's Literature - Naomi ButlerTwo young boys want to play ball, but they have trouble deciding which game to play. Each page's illustration shows a different way with great imaginative illustrations. The most is made of the little amount of words, but what is there is used to enhance the pictures. The book is funny and may stimulate the young reader to want to know what the words say. It is a good example of how a beginning reader can be pulled into learning words through the imaginative illustrations of a familiar and popular subject. A book like this one can also help the child describe, to an audience, what he has read and what is happening, which he is probably too inhibited to describe. In the process of his discussion, the child may use other creative words and/or descriptions. Hillert's books are always quite on target for the beginning readers. This book belongs in all children's collections. Reviewer: Naomi Butler
