Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
For anyone who thought Play-Doh was just colored clay from the 1950s that hardens when you forget to put the top back on, here is a book that will revive your interest and your imagination. Cut slits in big bubble wrap, fill the holes with Play-Doh and you have a rainbow caterpillar. Put balls of Play-Doh in the small tins that initially contain mints and you have portable Play-Doh for those long waits in the doctor's office. There are instructions for using Play-Doh to make math games, puppets, light switch covers, stampers and even buildings. Each colorful page lists all the necessary ingredients, most of which are around the house or the school (scissors, glue, cardboard, straws). Adult help may be needed to organize the projects and do some of the cutting, but the activities appeal to a wide age range. Even older children would enjoy making the games and toys for use with younger classes or siblings. It is a perfect book of fun ideas for families and classrooms. 2003, Millbrook Press,
— Karen Leggett
School Library Journal
K-Gr 4-This book contains 20 projects, some of which could easily be made out of other materials. For example, there are instructions for a "Tic Tac Doh" game made from poster board and Play-Doh markers. Product-specific crafts include "Play-Doh on the Go," a decorated tin in which to carry small amounts of the modeling compound. Some of the items are permanent in nature and do not permit reusing the clay. The pages have plenty of white space, and the colorful pen-and-ink drawings help to make the steps clear. As with the author's Play-Doh Animal Fun (2002), Play-Doh Art Projects (2002), and Play-Doh Halloween (2003, all Millbrook), readers will find that the crafts are clever and fun.-Kathryn Kosiorek, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Brooklyn, OH Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
