Before Fatboy Slim and Prodigy took dance music up the pop charts, a kid from Connecticut with a background in punk rock and hip-hop hit huge with a record called "Go," soon ascending to become techno's first star. With classics like Everything Is Wrong and the Move EP, Moby made techno so euphorically exciting even rock 'n' rollers couldn't ignore it, and he continued to push boundaries with forays into heavy metal and film music. In that tradition, Moby's new Play is his most adventurous album to date. Throughout, the maestro ingeniously hops around the map. Blues vocals and field recordings (gathered by ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax in the '30s) are sampled above florid hip-hop beats ("Honey"); a simpering slide guitar gels with an elegiac, gospel-tinged pop anthem ("South Side"); punk guitars rip through a funky street jam ("Bodyrock"). Of course, there's also enough straight-ahead techno and ambient music to satisfy longtime fans, but the heart of this excellent album is a restless sense of experimentation that passes over the block-rockin' beats and instead pursues a few fascinating avenues of expression.

This CD is absolutely phenomenal. Such a great, eclectic mix of sounds; full of all kinds of different emotions. Do not classify this as just another 'alternative' band or singer.

This is definately one of the greatest techno/rock/modern cds I've ever bought. I hesitated majorly before buying it; I hardly ever buy cds anymore. But this one is definatly worth whatever money you pay for it!

I purchased this CD in the fall and haven't stopped listening to it since. It perfectly combines dance, soul, and techno throughout the CD ... one of my favorites of all time.

Just got the CD today and can't stop listening to it. The music is really soulful and yet at the same time has great techno beats. This CD makes for great upbeat ambiant background music while on the computer or cleaning your room. OR great to listen to, sing to or get up and dance to. The music on this CD is really easy to listen to, it doesn't get on your nerves like some CDs do! Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

Moby's music is very interesting. Combine great beats with melodic piano and synthesizer into a jazz/soul/dance fusion and you have the relaxing, mind-clearing symphony of sound that Moby has mastered...Great album!

Easily the best album ever produced. Listen to this CD for two weeks and you will fall in love with it. This contains some of the best emotional music yet, I'll never get tired of these songs.

We've all heard this before. St-Germain has been playing with blues vocals for years as has LTJ Bukem. The tracks are weak and lack any real innovation or pace. The emotional aspect apart from porceline is none. fun to listen to once. Look elsewhere.

I bought this cd only because of the song Everloving that was in the Seabiscuit movie. But after listening to the whole cd, I love all the songs!

I purchased Play over a year ago and it is still one of the first CDs I pull off the shelf. I am one of those music fans who is always in search of 'the perfect album' and this is about as close as any have come in years. To be specific, I appreciate the chord progression in each song and the way Moby masterfully combines acoustic sounds to an electronic/dance feel. I highly recommend this CD, not only because it sounds good, but also because Moby is charismatic and humble and an all-around nice guy.

I thought that this was an absolutely beautiful, expressive album. He had a great variety of different songs. Even though this album was different from some of his previous ones because of having more instrumental songs, it was a good strech for him to do so. I would strongly recommend this album!

C'est un excellent album pour ceux qui aime ce genre de musique avec beaucoup d'extraits et de chansons pour des publicités ...

I thought that Moby's CD, Play, was one of the best CD's I have ever purchased. It appeals to people of all ages, and is all-around a extreamly down to earth CD. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is into different music. It is a techno folkish sounding mix, and is awsome!! So GO BUY THE CD!!

Moby has produced yet another thought-provoking album (something sorely lacking in techno these days). I'm not a huge techno fan, but I was captured by Moby a few years ago with Ambient. Not his best, but got me hooked. I held off buying this album simply because I couldn't afford it at the time, but I am not disappointed!! If you enjoy good music, buy it. His soulful, thought-provoking beats provide the perfect background for his subject matter. He basically picks songs/themes from past and current African-American music, sets them to a beat, and lets it roll!! you can't help but listen to the album repeatedly, soaking up the themes, moods, and ambience from the music. Enjoy!

Moby's album, ''Play'' has got to be the greatest, most inventive album I have ever heard. His mix of classical, rock, R&B, and jazz style weaves together to form a truly original work of art of which there seems to be a lack in today's music. From soul-wrenching ballads to gospel-tinged spirituals, Moby proves his entrance onto the mainstream musical stage is one that will make history, and influence greatly following musical generations.

Moby was one of the many artists that turned me on the techno music. I'm a techno finatic now. I go to clubs all the time, I listen to it in the car and in my room and he's awsome. When I heard he came out with a new album and it was being publicized as much as it was, I was expecting crazy underground stuff. To my surprise, machette is the only real hard core techno song. The first time I fully listened to the whole CD, I was disappointed. After the second time, his music grew on me. I started listening and everything in the song came together. It was amazing. The beats and the words go together beautifully and I was taken. I'm still a techno finatic but moby's album play is absolutely wonderful and by all means ''different.'' It is perfect for anyone who doesn't know exactly what to get. I give it 5 stars because it's unique, different, and totally fabulous.

This man is a true genius! My emotions are physically realized in this Cd. Don't hesitate, buy this! I am a fan of diversity and difference, and I still find that this Cd RULES over most others, even Moby's previous ones. It's so incredible!

I love Moby. His music is great, very uplifting with an awesome techno type beat. I bought PLAY a long time ago and I must admit, there is nothing out there quite like it. The first song on the CD, Honey, sounded really weird at first but after I listened to it a couple more times, it became my favorite song on the whole CD! Peace!

This is a fine work of Musicianship. Moby has incorporated everything about music into one CD. It has good music and nothing too repetitive, something that has become a problem with techno. Even if you don't like techno you might like this because it is light on techo heavy on originality.

Moby is an artist in the music industry who is freguently discussed, yet never really heard. I finally purchased one of his works, the new Play, and immediately felt as if I alone had entered a new realm of dance. Heavy beats overlay the soulful voices of blues legends, as well as, Moby's own legendary sound for the new millenium. Don't expect to drum out the people around you with this tape, no ears will be bleeding. Instead, look forward to a dance cd that entertains with easy beats and inspirational essays within the cd's jacket, and enjoy a nice latte with your phat beats.
