Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The simple text in these "flip-a shape" board books provides lessons for very young children. The shapes of the items in this title are a bit more whimsical than usually found in board books of this ilk. The spreads alternate. First, the left hand page shows and names the shape and the right hand page shows that same shape in an interesting way. Then when the page is flipped there is another example, and the shape is depicted on the opposing page. For example with the triangle, it is shown as a red triangle on a background made up of lots of triangles in various shades of yellow. Then we see a little girl with a triangular hat made out of newspaper. On the next page the triangle, which is again red because of the die cutout shape, creates the roof of a doll house. The newspaper triangular hat now resides on a page full of green triangles. The same approach is followed for a circle, square, rectangle, and oval. All of the images are reprised on the back cover. Part of the "Flip-a-Face" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
Kirkus Reviews
Triangle, circle, square, rectangle, oval: Brightly colored die-cut pages allow toddlers to encounter these basic shapes in a variety of incarnations. A basic red triangle against a yellow background leads to a newspaper hat, a dollhouse roof and the newspaper triangle against a green background; the name of the shape appears at the bottom of each page, framed in a cutout. Fun, age-appropriate ingenuity.
