Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Debra Lampert-Rudman
Children's pop-up books are generally gorgeous, dazzlingly detailed, and fun to read together with parents or older siblings. They are generally so gorgeous that little fingers want to play with them, only to be told "hands off" or you may ruin them. Finally, Candlewick Press may have created the perfect children's pop-up book: one that not only invites children to play, but encourages them to sit right down on the floor, literally jump inside the book and create their own new adventures and stories. Corina Fletcher and Britta Teckentrup's Playbook Pirates brims with delight as both a pop up board book that opens into a play mat and an interactive game with cardboard cut-out monkeys, fish, children and other characters and features to be added by the reader. The book opens, literally, with a pop up pirate ship pulling up anchor and continues through a sea voyage that includes mermaids, sea monsters, ending, of course, with a hidden treasure under a hidden flap. This book will be great fun for sea-adventure-loving boys and girls. Reviewer: Debra Lampert-Rudman
