A Pillow Talk Novel
After catching her research partner-slash-fiancé with the intern, Dr. Daphne Donovan returns home to lick her wounds and figure out how to fix her life. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out: being an uber-brilliant Doogie Howser has made her life miserable while all the normal people she knows are happy and content.
There's only one thing to do: become normal. No more being the wunderkind of childhood disease research. All she wants is a regular nine to five job, two-point-five children, a white picket fence, and a blue collar husband.
Except normal isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially after she meets Ulysses Gray. Gray is everything she doesn't want: smart, incredibly handsome, and a doctor--just like her ex-fiancé. She wants to deny him--and herself--but she can't resist playing doctor...

This is the second novel in the Pillow Talk series. This is the Daphne's story after Mena and Rio's story in Project Date. My favorite part of this book is how Daphne kept running into Gray, quite literally. I think it was cute the banter between them and a little frustrating as well how Daphne didn't want to be with another doctor and how she wanted to be ordinary and all that nonsense but in the end Gray won obviously and I think that he did a really good job of winning her back. I also liked how they were doctors for children and that she kept sneaking to help out at his clinic. Kate did incorporate Mena and Rio into the story as well which I really liked and thought it was a really good element to the story. It also showed how close Mena and Daphne are now and it was really good to see that they had a strong relationship now.
This is the 3rd novel of Kate Perry's I have read so far and it is right there in the middle. While I enjoyed the overall plot, I felt that it did not have the humor and realism of "Perfect for You". Although I like the idea of the heroine searching for a normal life after her previous misadventures, she was too stubborn. Even after all of the experiences she and the doctor had together, she still refused to accept their relationship. After one point, I was almost too annoyed with her to continue the story...just almost. Overall, it was a quick and relaxing read. Will be trying another one of her books soon!
A continuation of characters from Project Date, Daphne and Gray's story is another outstanding example of Kate Perry's story telling. As an over-achiever from a young age, Daphne's vulnerability after being used for the last time hits home. Her struggles to behave and be treated as a "normal" person are heartbreaking at times, but are also amusing and uplifting at the same time. I loved all of the characters in the story, but Gray is a special favorite, creating the perfect balance of what I am sure a lot of women believe to be a perfect soulmate. This was a great book from start to end.
PLAYING DOCTOR is Kate Perry's 3rd book in her Family and Love series which is another 5 stars, in my opinion. I highly recommend it. It is another novel which could stand alone outside the series. There is much more "story" in this book than sex which is not always the case in some of her other books. The plot has a good time line and it's characters are once again - rich, rich, rich. Since it is fiction .... rich and sex can be enhanced beyond real life of the working class; when you grasp this in any Kate Perry book - you will find them very good as they are well written. Good reading.
