Editorial Reviews

The Gospel Caolition - Drew Griffin
Mariano Rivera is a brief profile of a believer’s career and testimony in Major League Baseball. It is ideal for teenagers, young adults, and Yankees fans who want to learn about a Christian athlete at the top of his game. The book contains an explicit presentation of the gospel and would be an excellent tool to share with the non-Christian sports fan in your life. Ultimately, in an arena increasingly devoid of heroes, this book reminds us the greatest role models point to the One greater than themselves.

A Saver that Loves His Saviour.  Mariano Rivera is arguably the best closer that has ever stepped on to the mound.  This brief biography details some of those great moments, but also talks about his humble beginnings, his failures, his tragedies, and his personal victories.  The reader will be inspired and motivated by the example he demonstrates.  Not only does the reader get an inside the locker room glimpse of Rivera, but they also get a view into his personal, home, and church life.  Rivera loves his team, the Yankees, and his family, but this saver loves his Saviour the most.  Because of his notoriety and financial wealth, Rivera is in a unique position to accomplish many mission projects both here in the U.S. as well as in his native country of Panama.  But as the reader sees what God has allowed him to accomplish, they can also see what God will allow them to accomplish with a lot of love, a little effort, and a God given purpose.  Authors Florea and Yorkey have done a good job writing this and other “Playing on Purpose” sports biographies.  They are written in a very easy and entertaining style.  The reader will enjoy every page.
