Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Ask your child if he or she knows the magic words and hope that you get a right answer and not abracadabra. The focus is manners and part of good manners includes saying please and thank you. The lesson begins when a young boy wants to head off to the park. There is a big "Please!" on the page with a very large flap. Lift it up and there he is next to the swings with his dad who receives a big "Thank You!" The next scene has a young girl who spies an ice cream truck and she makes her request. The please and thank you are again the magic words. The lesson is repeated several more times with different scenes and since the requests are reasonable they get a positive result. It certainly is important to stress good manners, but let us hope that kids do not get the idea that anytime they say please that they will get what they are asking for. The back cover provides some guidance for parents and other caregivers. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
