Hiwatari started her career in 1982 when she was nineteen years old by sending in a manga story to the popular shôjo manga anthology, Hana to Yume. Entitled MAHOU TSUKAI WA SHITTEIRU (I Know A Magician), the story granted her access to a career as a manga artist. Following its success, Hiwatari got her big break with PLEASE SAVE MY EARTH.
Please Save My Earth, Vol. 17by Saki Hiwatari
Mokuren yearns for friendship, but she keeps overhearing the members of the KK research team bad-mouthing her. Handsome Gyokuran treats her with kindness, yet Mokuren is instead drawn to bad-tempered Shion, since he's the only one who can see her as a fellow mortal. When the team learns that their star system has been destroyed, Gyokuran turns to Mokuren for a miracle, not understanding that she is just as emotionally devastated and powerless as everyone else.
Meanwhile, in the present world, Jinpachi and issei learn how to see Alice's dreams, but she's reluctant to visit the painful events of her past...

Volume seventeen of Please Save My Earth, deals with Alice past as the beautiful Mokuren. In the past volumes we've only seen others views of Mokuren, as a mysterious, saint like figure who rarely ever shows any real emotion, save a smile and few tears. The past few volumes though have really shed some light on Mokuren as a human being, a person with real feelings and emotions. She's conflicted between 'nice' Gokuren and her crush on the bad boy Shion. Shion doesn't seem to like her but Mokuren is really drawn to him though she doesn't yet understand why. This voume reveals alot about Mokuren's true feelings and emphasizes the kind of lonileness and isolation she has felt because she is Kiches Sarjalim. Her status divides her from the crew and her isolation is apparent as they all learn their homeworld is gone. It's a great read and I highly recommend this latest installment in the series.
