Children's Literature - Judy KatshPhiladelphia's Please Touch Museum, advertised as the first museum in the United States designed for children under 7, has prepared this combination book and play set. It includes a sturdy play board that unfolds to become a 25 inch system of roadways; a sturdy board sheet from which a variety of vehicles can be punched out; and a 32-page paperback book that tells a story that can be acted out using the materials provided in the set. The picture book also offers (in small unobtrusive text) some suggestions for adult play-partners that can add involvement and instruction to the reading/playing experience. The story is slight and young readers will probably already own cooler toy vehicles that they'll prefer to play with, but the intent to bring reading and real life together is an honorable one. It will appeal to many young readers and early childhood educators alike.
