Dugan and Stewart go a long way to capture the tension, the bravery, the skill, and the times of the great air mission to Ploesti in 1943. The technical elements are blended nicely with the personal so as to give the reader a well-rounded understanding of the battle. The book is relatively short and concise which indicates a well-thought out and well-written account of what happened and it's impact on World War II. As a reader, the book incited in me admiration and appreciation for the sacrifice and bravery of the men who flew that day. Few Americans today are aware of what happened just north of Bucharest, Romania in August of 1943. This is very unfortunate. Perhaps this book can be used to remind us that our freedoms are not free and that the finest of our nation gave the last full measure of devotion.... even in a strange place named Ploesti, over 50 years ago. Thanks and God bless all of you Ploesti veterans; because of you, I'm still proud to be an American. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
