I expected more. While the short story was OK, most of this download is a teaser for the author's book. It's only about 50 pages.

I thoroughly enjoyed the main character, Gage. He's a crusty sort that is somehow likable. After reading this short story, I am looking forward to reading the novel based on this character. A quick and enjoyable read.

Jack Nolte's way with the word, great sense of humor, and ability to write a story is refreshing.

Glad it was on the free list as I was disappointed in it and would have felt I had wasted my money and time on this one.

Good introductory story for Gage the main character. Shadowy background not fully explained and a possible love interest with the newspaper owner/reporter. I have already downloaded the full novel.

Good idea, putting the novel sample at the end of the short story like that. You hooked me! Like the short story, but the novel seems even better.

Short story had lots of typos. Download is mostly a sample of a new book.

It is difficult to review a book you have not read. When I tried to download this book I received a sample of a different book by Jack Nolte, "The Gray and Guilty Sea". I reported this error to the support team and they sent an email with instructions how to clear the download and retry. They also claimed they did could not duplicate this problem. I followed the instructions and again attempted to download "A Plunder by Pilgrims" and again received the sample for the above book. I again notified the support people this time by replying to their email. They again said they were unable to duplicate my problem and they were able to download "The Gray and Guilty Sea". Huh! Do they even read the text of our complaints? I was then instructed to try the same procedures I had tried before. I deleted the download and gave up. I wonder if anyone will read this review.

This story is only about 40 pages, so it is a very fast read. However it is also very underdeveloped and seemed to be told on a time crunch by skipping over the details. The storyline itself had potential, but was overall disappointing that I did not read the preview (the other 100 pages) of the next book in the series.

Most if this book were just ramblings by the author that could have been left out of the book.

I usually do not like short stories but this was pretty good. I am sure that I will be reading more of his stories soon.

I have become a sudden follower of Garrison Gage as I am also an aged person and I have been given hope that there is life after retirement.

Wasn't sure I would like this book until the I came to the ending with it's twist. Very unusual ending and one that made me want to read another Nolte book, The Gray and Guilty Sea...really am enjoying the main character.
