From The CriticsReviewer: Lori R. Solaro, MD (Rush University Medical Center)
Description: This is a handbook suitable for quick reference in both inpatient and outpatient settings for the pharmacologic management of children and adolescents with mental disorders including indications, contraindications, dosage guidelines, side effects and their management, and drug interactions.
Purpose: The authors' intent is to provide a portable companion to the Textbook of Pharmacotherapy for Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Disorders appropriate for efficient clinical reference.
Audience: This handbook is primarily useful to child and adolescent psychiatrists and secondarily to pediatricians and family practitioners to answer basic clinical questions about child and adolescent psychopharmacology.
Features: Reference lists are selective and fairly current. Numerous tables clarify the text.
Assessment: This is a well organized and reader friendly office and bedside reference for clinicians. In particular, the many illustrative tables make referencing topics easier. There is also a concise chapter on the specific characteristics of drug disposition during childhood. This handbook would also be useful as a review of child and adolescent psychopharmacology. It is highly recommended as a practical office and bedside reference.
