Overview

A cleverly illustrated handbook to forty of the world’s most fascinating religions, complete with tips on how to make it to the Eternal Plane of your choosing.

Are you a virtuous person with no religion to call your own? Have you finished planning your life but can’t decide what to do when it ends? Do you sometimes just get curious about Wiccan religious beliefs? I f you answered yes to any of these questions, then you’re in luck. In this essential guide to the afterlife, authors Augusta Moore and Elizabeth Ripley take us through religions from Ásatrú to Zoroastrianism, outlining their views of damnation, apocalypse, reincarnation, and more. Do you long to live out eternity on your very own planet? Check out the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Would you rather just lay out on the beach until the end of time? Druidism may be for you. Are you more of a stoic, no-frills type? Nirvana may be just what you need.

Filled with handy diagrams, illustrations, and fun facts about each religion, The Pocket Guide to the Afterlife is the only book you’ll need for the rest of eternity.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal

Adult/High School

Arranged alphabetically and including traditions ranging from Buddhism and Roman Catholicism to Eckankar and YazdAonism, this tongue firmly in cheek "guide" glosses the high-and most gruesome, exciting, or threatening-points of death beliefs. Each religious system receives four pages that include an overview paragraph, a full-page portrait of an affiliated personality (founder, god, etc.), and a spread with a diagram of how your lifetime choices-or, in some situations, plain luck-influence where you go after death and what happens to you there. No one will become a theological scholar with this book as their text, and there is something to offend practically everyone if the religion under discussion is theirs. However, for spiritually curious teens and those with the irreverent sense of humor and delight in the bizarre, this is a treat. There's also just enough about the rudimentary structure of each faith system to give readers good search terms to take to the Web to find fuller details.-Francisca Goldsmith, Halifax Public Libraries, Nova Scotia

Meet the Author

Augusta Moore is currently experiencing her 973rd reincarnated form, having moved up from her last incarnation as an Arctic krill, and is hoping to get it right this time. She’s not sure writing this book has helped. Elizabeth Ripley has spent her life devoted to world peace, and hopes that through this book, her dream of a world summit including Louis Farrakhan, the pope, and the spirits of Bahá’u’lláh and L. Ron Hubbard may finally be realized.
