The new edition makes it easy to find the perfect word, with Oxford's unique arrangement of core senses and subsenses. We draw on the latest evidence from the Oxford English Corpus--a vast database of more than two billion words--to uncover the most common and most important meanings of words and phrases in contemporary American English. We then use these findings to organize the entries in the thesaurus, listing synonyms in order of frequency of use, so that the first choice you see is probably the one you need, and preventing you from inadvertently picking a word that is not in common use. In addition, virtually every sense includes a sample sentence drawn from the Corpus, revealing how the words are used in actual speech. And finally, the thesaurus now boasts a completely new page layout, with a more open and accessible design, with an emphasis on readability.
Portable, affordable, reliable, this revolutionary new resource stands on the shoulders of the colossal Oxford English Corpus, providing readers with the clearest vision of American English as it exists today. No other thesaurus on the market has anything like this authority behind it. It is the first choice for writers on the go and for anyone who wants to select words accurately and with confidence.

I found this reference text easy to read and presented in a very clear, concise manner. The layout of the book is amazing because it will not only give you the grammatical information that you are looking for, but it will also put the word in a sentence for you. Right in the center of the book is a handy "word finder" chart with some key topices of frequently used words that are separated into categories. I have only had this book for a few weeks and I have used it almost every day. I went back to college after being away from it for over 20 years, and I find that if I had a reference guide such as this back then, I probably would not have struggled to find just the right word. You will defintely get use out of this book if you buy it today. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

As a writer of both fiction and non-fiction, a good thesaurus is essential. The Oxford series of dictionaries and thesauruses are part of my collection of dictionaries that I use frequently while I'm writing. Whether you are a letter writer, student or professional in business or academia, this book is a must for your collection. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
