Popular Personal Finance Blogger Gives the Secret to Lasting Financial Health

Countless free budget plans are available for every possible income level and stage of life. So why do more than 60 percent of U.S. households still live paycheck to paycheck? The key to financial stability and success isn't just about money--it's about attitudes.

Rocha uses the lessons she learned overcoming personal debt to teach readers how to triumph over the lies we tell ourselves, such as "I deserve a treat," "Fake it till you make it," and "I can't afford it." Each chapter uses real-life examples to explain faulty thinking about money, followed by step-by-step instructions for how to overcome these pitfalls. Budgets are helpful, but real change won't happen without a financial attitude adjustment.

One nice thing about this book is that she writes it from the perspective of someone who's been there. She and her husband accumulated debt, and once they realized how deep they were in, made a plan to eliminate the debt and then live debt-free. Another thing I really like about this book is that it isn't just about changing behaviors - it's about changing the attitudes that lead to those behaviors. Attitudes like deserving treats, or the idea that more money would be the solution. These attitudes are clearly described, and then tools are given to help combat those attitudes, before diving into some basic budget tips. The budget tips aren't earth-shattering, and I wouldn't buy the book just for them. But the foundation laid by the examination of one's attitude - that is an important factor to consider, and one that a lot of personal finance books ignore. If you're struggling with money, even though you know what you should be doing, then consider checking this book out to help you figure out what mental barriers are standing in your way. Disclosure: I received a complimentary e-copy of this book to facilitate this review.

After seeing Ms. Rocha on an early morning news cast on my local station (ABC, KSTP - channel 5) I decided getting out of debt was this years goal. A short (165 pages) book with good sound advice and no fluff. Easy reading, user friendly and practical solutions.

I read this book in 3 days. As others have mentioned, the concepts in this book are not rocket science. If you are like me, you probably already know and occasionally think about parts of the concepts she talks about, but you are in denial that you are really doing anything wrong or think you have it in control. The best part of this book is that she really cuts through all of the excuses that we use to trick ourselves and brings the real problems to the forefront. In fact, many of the excuses that she mentions and says that she used herself are ones that I've actually said to myself over and over. It gave me a fresh new perspective on how I handle my money. It's only been a week, but now I'm being honest with myself and being picky about how I spend my money.

This book is really step by step how to change your approach (and your attitude) towards your income, your out-go, your daily thoughts about wheat you spend, when and why. I'm not finished with it yet, but what I've read is going to help me get control for once and for all!

I've been a fan and follower of Carrie and PYD for a few years. So, naturally, when I found out she was writing a book, I anxiously awaited its arrival. I love this book! I think that changing one's attitudes about money, saving, etc., is huge. Her book is very helpful, almost like going to a presentation of hers (which I haven't been able to do). I love how she approaches the subject of money, so different and straight-forward than a lot of other books we read. Old habits are hard to break, but I am finding that her book is aiding in reshaping my ideas, and furthering my life towards a better financial status, little by little. Thanks, Carrie! Awesome book.

This book gets to the heart of the matter about debt. It's not a lesson in how to set up budget worksheets, as that information can be easily googled. It's about the reasons we haven't set up budget worksheets so far in our life. Carrie talks from the heart and you feel like you can connect with her.
