Overview

Pocketful of Sunshine was Brit-pop artist Natasha Bedingfield's North American sophomore album; everywhere else around the world, a similar album was released eight months earlier, simply entitled N.B. Pocketful of Sunshine is built from half of N.B.'s original track list, as well as a handful of pop singles geared perfectly toward the mainstream American market, such as lead single "Love Like This" (with Sean Kingston) and the title track. Compared to its international counterpart, the album was packed with more potential singles, a sunnier disposition, and a much more radio-friendly sound, allowing Bedingfield to release two similar but different albums around the same time to appeal to the two markets in which she has found success.

Natasha Bedingfield opens and ends with a very beautiful album. But... what about the rest. I love how Natasha tries something new on every track. She succeeds. Especially on her ballads. But she also makes a major mistake trying to act hip-hop/hop when she's soul. It's okay to listen to once. But it just needed a little push and a little bit more effort. I got to say that it was as good at Unwritten. But was Unwritten good either. Well Pocket of sunshine has the same material but it fails by trying something it's not. The albums flaws occur a lot in the middle section. And another thing is that it's an okay album. You won't find any magic hear. All you'll hear is somewhat descent pop, ballads, and some soul. It combines a lot but without over doing. The only flaw here is you look at it and say it could have been better. But hey it's pretty cool. But sorry Natasha I'm gonna have to give it a thumbs down.

She needs to be a pop singer, not a Hip-Hop or R&B singer. The song "Soulmate" is a great pop song. The rest is all just noise to me. This will be the last CD I buy on hers. She has a great voice, but her songs are another story. Play the samples.

Since I am not a huge fan of soul or her first album, I was surprised that I like this second one. I bought the album after listening it played at my friend's apartment. I like the fact that there were less soul tracks. It's cool that she stepped out of her comfort zone and see what else she is capable of. Since I liked 9 of the 13 tracks, I felt the album should at least get 4 stars.
