Meet the Author

Janice Lawson began writing poetry as a child in Texas. Her love of the artform gave her an artistic outlet for celebrating her later loves, parenting, teaching, and living in Colorado. Much of the poetry in this publication was written in and around Grand County, Colorado, the breathtakingly beautiful area that lies west of Rocky Mountain National Park.
A rich lifetime of teaching students from preschool age to college age, provided a wealth of material for many of the works included in the "Little" Hearts section of this book. Her own daughters’ delightful antics provided even more.
Recently retired from teaching public school and courses at Colorado Mesa University, Ms. Lawson has encouraged hundreds of students to love and improve their own writing. She continues to live in Grand Junction, Colorado, with her husband, Ed Kallio and canine sidekick, Lily.
She now spends her time traveling, visiting her vast treasury of family and friends, and working on upcoming publications: an autobiography, A Diary of Christmases; and the sequel to Kuya Kai, Adventures of an Alaskan Chow Puppy, On the Fly, Kijik and I. This is her third published book to date.
Special memory: visiting Pablo Neruda’s home in Valparaiso, Chile, and reading and translating poetry written in his own hand.
Many of the works in this book were previously published under the name Janice Allison. Ms. Lawson is pictured on the title page of "Silly Songs" in this book and with Hope Lawson on the title page of "The Pageant."

I've read this book cover to cover several times and now I find mysef going back to savor poems that are becoming my favorites. The author is obviously a gifted poetic word-smith. Her poems run the emotional gamut from belly-laughers to slowly read tear-jerkers and incredibly poignant pieces that have meaning for everyone who experiences the human condition. Do I like it? I love it! Absolutely 5 stars!
