At the bed-and-breakfast where Perdita and Perry are staying lives an eccentric pair of sisters, Kira and Catitlìn. Among the unexpected guests are Breton Trent, Kira's old flame, and Andrew, whose allure has only improved with age.

Recognizing in Kira's thwarted love an example of her own, Perdita works to bring the couple together again. In the process she finds herself growing ever closer to Andrew. Perry's subsequent anguish, however, incidentally coincides with an illness that seems to affect her heart. As three sets of love triangles hurtle toward final conclusions, the marine biologist's quest for the legendary creature of Loch Ness becomes the central metaphor for the secrets that glide beneath the surface of us all.

An ill-matched American couple heads off to Scotland on a futile quest for the Loch Ness monster, in an atmospheric, bravely affecting debut. Absent-minded Michigan marine biology professor Perry Miggs and his listless, younger, stay-at-home wife, Perdita, have packed up for a six-month stay in St. Andrews on what is supposed to be Royal Geographical Society-sponsored research into the elusive Loch Ness creature. Yet there is something amiss in the couple's anxious expectations. Perdita, who has heart problems, has been yearning to return to Scotland since she came as a student 17 years before, while Perry longs for a second chance to prove himself since he was rejected on an earlier Loch Ness expedition. Once they arrive, they secure lodgings at Iubhar with two sexagenarian sisters (whose incidental battles over the same unworthy man serve as the leitmotif here) and rent a boat piloted by rugged native Andrew Macgruer, who happens to be the heartthrob of Perdita's long-ago first visit. A divorced poet who prefers to live alone in a cottage in the woods, Andrew is a tortured soul who has been pining for Perdita's lost love all these years. He has traumatically seen his one true friend, medieval studies professor David Carlisle, die in his arms from a heart attack after glimpsing the Loch Ness monster. Despite her love for her husband, whose muddling ways could never make her happy, Perdita finds herself naturally receptive to Andrew's attractions. She even seems to have her husband's tacit approval in the renewed affair, as Perry begins to disappear at the lake for extended periods and indulge in other bizarre behavior. Brian Jay Corrigan is a professor of Renaissance literature at North Georgia College and State University. He is also founder of the North Georgia Theatre Project and has written two books on Renaissance drama. He won the Josiah W. Bancroft St. novel prize, as well as first place in the Florida First Coast Writers' Festival, for The Poet of Loch Ness. He lives with his wife in Dahlonega, Georgia.

    A Romanitic Love Story

    This is a beautiful story of love. Very moving, touching of one's heart. Letting go of your beloved and to let a heart in that was once lost. You can feel and breathe the air of Scotland. Romantic story and looking forward to Cardigans next book this is a book to add to anyone's library.

    Poet of Loch Ness

    POET OF LOCH NESS is a love story set to warm readers on even the chilliest of nights. Set on the shores of Scotland's Loch Ness, the tale of lost and regained love is one of great beauty. Corrigan writes from both female and male point of views believably with luscious descriptive prose. Graceful. Thoughtful. Delicious. And who can pass up a book where Nessie really exists, not only just in the depths of our hearts, but in that Scottand loch.

    Poet of Loch Ness

    This is a really fine little book, written with care and emotion to keep readers coming back for more, page after page. Poet of Loch Ness is a real treat, a feast, for readers who crave the standard of writing so very evident in this book and so lacking in others. Set on the shores of Scotland's Loch Ness, Corrigan gives us beauty everywhere, including the heart, and prose reminiscent of a Shakespearean love sonnet. Looking forward to the author's next venture.

    A Journey...

    A beautiful story. That is the easiest way to explain this. Not only do you get to be swept away to a beautiful place, you get an adventure. What will you do for someone you love? How far will you go to help someone experience their dream? If your wondering what you would do...you must read this book. I was wrapped up in the scenery, and the characters. I love Perdita, I can never imagine falling in love and for whatever reason not being with that person. How does a person live life without their true love? Luckily, I have that person. Which made the story so heartfelt. Imagine marrying someone because it was the right thing to do. Because you loved them...but was NOT your true love. Then years pass and you happen upon this true love from years earlier, and they still love you as much as they did back then. What do you do? What is considered right and wrong? Who's feelings are most important? So many questions. Not only does this story answer some of these questions, it also has a mystery to go along with it. One that kept me up late reading to try and figure out. This is one of those books that you will fall in love with! You must read it to really understand this!

    Super!

    I am a HUGE fan of Diana Gabaldon, and when I saw her recommendation on the cover of this book, I just had to give it a try. I was so taken with this book that I loaned it to my mother and then my sister. Now I am going to have my reading group read it. This book has everything--suspense, love, rich descriptins of Scotland, and a surprise ending that will keep you talking for weeks! My sister said that this is one of those rare books that you can open at random and have it draw you in in just a paragraph. We all fell in love with Perdita, the main character, and the great cast of characters, Andrew, Perry, Meg, Kira, and scruffy Brenton Trent. This is a book you will begin reading again as soon as you have finished the last sentence. It really is just that good.

    Almost missed my plane because of this book

    I usually get lost in a good book, but this one would not let me go. They were announcing last chance to board before I realized it. Even then I had to tear myself away to run for the plane. There is a richness to the descriptions that captivate you from the beginning. The characters are warm, real people that you will really come to care for. And it is a real page turner! Don't miss the chance to read this beautiful book. Just don't start to read it if you have someplace to go.
