The Poetic Edda based on 0 ratings. 5 reviews.
I would have liked to be able to read the whole thing without interruptions, because the notes make it excrutiating.
The elder Edda is one of ou major sources for understanding norse mythology. Many of the poems were preserved in poor states, so it is great to have an edition that will explain stanza by stanza what a new reader might miss. If you like mythology, epic tales, or even just poetry, don't miss this. The only reason I do not give this edition 5 stars, is because it is from 1923 and our perception of the Elder edda has changed somewhat over the last century. For one thing, we no longer acredit this collection to Saemund the Learned.
Notes are fine to explain a few things, but there where so many notes they just got in the way and confused me while I was trying to read.
